After 5 Wranglers over the years, I made my decision to order a new 2021 Willys Monday with the 3.6 Pentastar engine and the 8 Speed transmission. I’m trading my 2016 Willys with 28,500 miles on it for
the 2021. My 2012 and the 2016 had the 3.6 engines so I wanted to stick with it, I had good luck with these. My question is with the 2021’s the 3.6 and 8 speed Auto’s have the Pentastar E Torque system on it, no option With the start/stop 48 volt battery system. Can someone make me feel good by buying this addition. E Torque ok?? Mines on order!

Don't have it but I am sad that it is your only option. This will be my last Wrangler.

couldnt tell you on the e torque. but the 3.6 mated to the 8 spd auto is a great combo. thats what i have on my 19 jl sport. i love it. it has plenty of power. the mpg is way better then the previous pentastar and auto trans.

Don't mistake the eTorque system with ESS (stop/start), they have virtually nothing to do with each other, except that I believe the eTorque belt-start generator replaces the standard starter motor. I was planning to get the 2.0L eTorque back in 2018, but for some reason it wasn't available on the Rubicons in Canada... If the Pentastar is good on it's own, it can't be worse with a mild hybrid helping it, can it?

Have a look at this article, seems to be great in the RAM...

The 3.6 is great. The ESS System feels like it was designed by blind pandas with a degree in sociology.

I’m thinking that the Etorque system might be a comparatively great choice

Dear Sir, as representative for the Blind Panda Sociologists Society (BPSS), I ask you to please cease and desist this blatant attack on our credibility and design expertise. Members of the BPSS pride themselves on their high level of skill, particularly when exploring the socioeconomic implications of ESS on Antarctic toucans.

We believe you likely are referring to the deaf pangolins with degrees in political science. Everyone knows they can't design their way out of a wet paper bag. And wet paper bags are a terrible choice for ESS....

Was thinking about the Sahara with an automatic but didn't want the E-torque option in case it becomes troublesome, so I went with the Gladiator Overland instead.

I have etorque on the 2.0 and it works great. The extra push torque down from a dead stop is probably a bonus. Makes the whole start stop thing barely noticeable. I hear ESS on non-etorque engines is miserable. Works great on mine and I'm not worried about the extra coolant lines or battery. US gov regs require that battery to be covered under warranty for 8yrs/80k miles.

If it helps, the RAM 1500 with a 3.6 Pentastar and the Hemi is also equipped with the eTorque for over a year. Those owners have not complained. I don't think you made a wrong decision. Just turn off the ESS every time you start the Jeep.

The 8 Speed is one of the best automatics out there right now. Someone like me who drove manuals for a while is impressed and may not want a Wrangler in the 6 speed because the 8 speed has spoiled me now.

I barely notice ESS on my Sahara with the regular V6.

I have the 2.0 eTorque and have to say I love it, actually feel kinda bad for the “newer” 2.0’s without it. Start/stop is incredibly fast and barely noticeable, so I’m pretty sure that’s how the 3.6 might be - go for it!

I have eTorque on a 2018 2.0, and it works great for me, I assume it will make the 3.6 feel even better!
- For my test drives I felt, seat on my pants test, that the 2.0 with eTorque, was quicker on the low end than the 3.6.

As for ESS, it works with no problems for me :)
