Per manual engine air filter change interval is every 3 hrs or 30k miles.

as others has stated, its very easy to change yourself, depends on were you live and drive, 25k is what I did and it wasn't really dirty, I changed the cabin filter too, and it was quite dirty.....

I live (and tend to wheel) in a very dusty environ. At the 1st video below, you can see how dirty my factory filter got at less than 10K. (In the static pic below that, you can see how dirty the new filter got after a trip).

I switched out to cleanable, DRY filters. I now have 2 of them. This lets me swap out after a long dusty trip, so I have a clean filter for the hundreds of miles trip back home.

In the last vid you can see how easy it is to change the filters yourself.

Replace every 30k per the factory schedule unless you drive in incredibly dusty conditions. Then replace it every 10k along with the cabin filter.

FWIW, Blackstone Labs has made specific mention of effective [engine] air filtration contributing to the excellent numbers on the used oil analysis reports that I've curated for the Jeep, and other vehicles that I've owned. Thus my policy of using OEM air filters and adhering to the mileage-based replacement intervals noted in the Owner's Manuals.

Anecdotally, our Honda Pilot started misfiring at 60k on the original air filter. It actually went into limp mode because of this.
As others said, it will depend on your use but 16k is early.
Sounds like my cabin filter. AC fan couldn't push air through it. 🤣
