Does anyone else experience this overwhelming feeling of joy when cruising by yourself, tunes cranked up, doors off, and you're just f'n happy?

I have issues with PTSD and emotional control at times and I have noticed there a few things that actually overwhelm those responses.

Watching my kid play will do it. Rolling by myself in the Jeep brings me peace and a similar feeling. Same with working in the garage and hanging with my wife when we're in tune with each other.

Thought I'd write this down while I was thinking about it because I know others struggle with things, too, and if community brings that out for you, too, just know it's normal; embrace it.

We lost 43 Blackwater brothers in combat and over a 100 to illness, suicide, etc... since coming home.

Anyway, love the emotional response something like this brings you. Means you're still in there.

God Bless and Thank you for your service! I hope the entire Jeep community will get behind you as well.

I suffer from PTSD pretty bad actually, from deployments overseas among other things and definitely know that feeling you are describing. Music is the number one therapy in that then the freedom of a jeep. Taking a ride on a bike will also give you that blissful, weightless feeling of joy. It does suck when you have to stop the music.

I feel similarly when riding around in the Jeep with the top down and more so with the doors off too. I suspect it makes us feel more connected to nature and our surroundings. Being out in nature tends to having a calming effect. The ability to remove the top and doors takes away from of those barriers.

Love the Jeep community! ❤ 🤗

Music, for sure. It's combining it with the freedom of letting go and relaxing. It does have to stop and come back to reality at some point, which does suck sometimes, for sure. Lol.

I've got some old Navy buddies that talk together, too, and we work through the 9/11 stuff together. We were all only 18 back then, so it's this forced growing up thing that happened and we're all better for it. Music is a common ground for all of us.

Still trying to convince them to buy Jeeps so we can run to Moab every year. Lol. Not working so far.

I had just turned 19 the day before 9/11 happened. Long story short; After kids, Army life, and deployments. I'm exhausted in ways that no human spirit should be. So I say, fck it, take that top off, take the doors off, drop that beat and bust a move, and be an All American nuisance because we absolutely earn that right🫡
Wear your seatbelt though, safety first. Wrap a PT belt around some bars too. You will never die😐🫡

You Army guys and that damn PT belt. Haha!

It's a worship worthy uniform component.

Great attitude to have, for sure. Live 4,5, or 6 different lives between 19 and 45 years old. To maintain any sort of positivity takes actual effort some times.

Glad you have that joy.
Personally, I get the bliss more when going very slow, off-road, music off, listening to twigs break, a stream gurgling, breeze in the trees, bird song, squirrel squeak. Just a different bliss-mode.
I hear you man. I dig top off and doors off but the real peace and disconnect from life's worries come when I'm going 2 mph crawling over rocks and what not. Just listening to the Jeep react to my input and tackle the obstacle at hand is otherworldly to me. Love playing in the water too.

Yes. Doing so in the Jeep provides a visceral feeling similar to when I've got the Sena turned up while riding the motorcycle. In both instances, I'm doing exactly what I want to do, when I want to do it. Good enough!
I have a 1290 SAR I ride and it absolutely provides that feeling. Getting out where no one else is on the bike is fantastic at producing serotonin. Lol.

This is Shelf Rd. heading South from Cripple Creek to Canon City in CO. It's about 45 minutes West of the house here. Great place to escape.

Doors off top down just cruising and enjoying it. Yeah, I feel that. And I feel your pain too. Similar situation, my small route clearance company has lost so many more since we got home than we lost in the sandbox doing the mission. Last December was rough, we lost one of the guys that I spent a lot of time with and tried to mentor. Keep fighting the good fight, and don't let the bad days win.

That coming home part is what no training prepares you for. Being open about mental health and talking out loud does wonders for coping.

It doesn't help that Pueblo, CO is just Afghan with a Walmart...f'n desert :CWL:, but my family is here and that helps more than anything really.

Sorry about your buddy. Some hurt more than others and for sure, don't let the bad days win.

I do still get to rescue random helicopters from hay fields from time to time and with my job now, there's still excitement and adrenaline producing activities. Just in a different way. Mixing Jeeps and Aviation is right up my alley. Lol.

Taken a long while ago, but it was a a good time. First time I got to use the white phosphor AN/AVS-9 goggles. Super clear white NVG's.

He was literally the best of the best of us. But none of that matters when those demons are inside your own head. I don't hide the pain anymore like I used to. And that has helped. Even here, I've been honest and open with folks about some of the things. I need to get my Jeep back up and going again, because I miss that open air therapy.

Never saw the 9s. Did play with using my PVS14, and my TC, so that both eyes had NV for some goofing off.
