So years ago I had a 2004 manual Columbia edition 6 cylinder wrangler. That gas pedal was very quick and responsive. You push it in and instantly throw you against the seat. I recently bought a 2022 Willy’s manual and I was wondering is the throttle response normal for the newer Jeeps. I press the pedal and there is a good 1 second delay before anything happens. My old Jeep I got be dumb and tap tap tap the pedal to make the Jeep kinda hop a bit. There is no doing that with my new one. It almost feels like the computer is taking over to force a smooth acceleration. If this is normal is there a way to stop it? I want the quick responsive pedal of my old Jeep

which engine & transmission?

I have a 4dr 3.6 e torque with ESS and auto trans and I find the throttle response is really good. It gets off the line surprisingly well. Much better than the turbo throttle lag I had on my bmw 135i

Sadly the manual only has one engine option. 3.6 v6. Don’t get me wrong it’s got power it’s just the response from when I push the gas pedal to when the engine speeds up is crazy long compared to my 04 Jeep. It was instant on my old Jeep.

I have an auto with the3.6L and was pretty pleased with the response when I got it. Then I installed the SprintBooster and I'll never go back. Love that it's compact, has multiple settings, and only took 10min to install. Maybe it'll help.

The computer IS taking over to force a smooth acceleration. The JL accelerator isn't physically connected to anything. It is merely a request to the computer to accelerate. It doesn't always grant that request.

Frankly that's why after 30 years of driving manuals I switched to the auto trans on the JL. That degree of direct human action isn't entirely compatible with the JL's automated and managed systems. Plus it's a very good auto trans.

I put a pedal commander on my wife's JLUR with the 2.0 turbo and we both hated how sensitive it made the throttle (it's now for sale in the classifieds). But you might have some success with something like that.

I run a Pedal Commander on my Tacoma manual transmission and it makes a big difference. You will initially be like WTF and will need to probably be in "City" mode to start, but you will find your setting (I have mine set at Sport 3, these all make sense when you look at the device). I would buy the Pedal Commander from the person who posted in this thread and give it a try. I was skeptical, but it has turned out great.

Has anyone bought it from you yet? I would be willing to give it a shot.

The Hikeit X9 throttle controller works wonders. You have numerous sensitivity options from Eco to Auto, to racing etc… I too hated the throttle lag. I keep mine on auto and the throttle response is perfect there for me.

I'm also part of the group that recommends throttle controllers if you don't like the lag.

I've been running one on my JLU for over a year and love the throttle response now. Even in "economy" (gas saving) mode, it's better than stock.

The simple answer is the pedal has no direct relation to the throttle body, meerly a suggestion. While pedal controllers certainly do, something, they don't effect the throttle at all, just what the pedal outputs. All the pedal controllers do is speed up or slow down how fast or far you foot is down. Engine/powertrain is also not the problem, its 100% tuning. The 3.6 in a challenger, you could mat it and the rear tires would light up just fine, you could play with the throttle and it would respond instantly. The tuning on the manual JL/JT is purely for preventing clutch failure, preventing poor driving, and fuel economy. No matter what you do, it will only be changed by a proper in depth, very detailed tune of the PCM
