This seems like a great forum already. Thanks for the conversation. I feel better about just contacting this dealer tomorrow and, like suggested, just telling them I have learned of dealers offering 6% off invoice and if they want my business they can match it. Worst case, I move on to another dealership. I do think I'm still happy with my build. I suppose I could get a Rubicon, but I think it wouldn't include my choices in upgrades for the same price and I really don't care about the rock crawling stuff included in the Rubicon. Seems better to spend that money on the comforts I want?

Don't buy into the MSRP+ game. If you need one now and are buying off the lot, then you generally have to. But if you're ordering, you have options.

You're already going to order a new Jeep, so get one from a dealer that will give you the best price. I ordered a Rubicon two weeks ago from Gupton Motors in TN at 7% under INVOICE. After their doc fees, this comes out to 11.6% BELOW MSRP.

Koons is a dealership in DC that offers much the same pricing. Definitely read through the dealer pricing thread posted above. Why not get your new Jeep for $6K under MSRP if you can? That's more money for mods!

9 out of 10 buying a Rubicon don’t really need one.

You will be fine with a Willys: it will do everything you need it to do, and more.

Like the OP, I live in NJ and bought my Jeep from Groupon at 7% under invoice. Cheap flight to Tennessee where Grupton picked me up at the airport. In and out in an hour and an 800 mile adventure back to NJ.

To piggy back off this dead on response. Even if you did want to rock crawl believe me you can. I can do any rock crawling I fee comfortable in my sport with the M220 rear. This is also my daily driver so I’m not out there doing black/red trails. You can do most badge of honor trails in a sport with a good spotter and common sense.

Thats exactly what I did. I got comments like "you could have bought a Rubi for that kind of money" or "I only paid xxx for my 6MT Rubi". Which is all fine and good but I didn't want a manual or to cut back on comfort options to get the Rubi suspension that I didn't want or need. Buy what you want.

Also, keep in mind that you can order the 24w (3.6, 8 speed auto, ESS, no eTorque) for about $1500 less. The dealer can order it, it's not on the Jeep build and Price though.

Ok. I ha e been doing my best to research and come up with an order for a Willy's unlimited. Yesterday I almost gave a deposit after doing a build with the dealer. I decided to step away for a day and make sure all was right, because I always feel like I'm being pressured sitting at that desk.
Sooo... I'm here reading over my worksheet for the thousandth time, when I notice something. I think.
So on my phone I configured my Jeep, starting with an unlimited Willy's. The salesperson looked at my order and transferred it all onto their paperwork and came up very close to the same price, telling me the market isn't allowing for haggling, yada yada. I end up getting a few bucks off for this and that and 500 off for a first responder discount. I'm ok with that I guess in this day and age.
Now that I'm looking at my sheet from them, the top line doesn't say Unlimited Willy's, it says "Wrangler unlimited sport JLJL74".
I'm thinking they are trying to sell me a Willy's sport vs. a Willy's. Or am I looking at this wrong ? They make the packages and options so confusing as it is, then it changes up all the codes on the dealer paperwork.
Am I wrong? If this is the case I'm basically fed up with this whole process and about to bail on ever getting this jeep

Are you being duped? A lot of folks have already given you advice on how to get a better deal on that special "cool" edition Jeep you're looking at and a lot of folks have already mentioned better equipped models that you might get for the same money. However, since the real problem is that you, like most people, started with a dream and let Stellantis and one of its dealerships work to sell you a delusion, I thought I might ought to be the skunk at the garden party (again) and point that out.

In my mind, you really need to go back and start with first principles. Who are you, really; why do you want or need a vehicle, really; how do you think you're going to want or need to use it, really; and is all of that consistent with where you really live, how much free time you really have, and how much disposable income you really have? Once you have all those realities down, then decide on whether and what kind of capabilities you want on any Jeep that might be for you.

Remember that all of these special "cool" editions, the Mojave, the Willys, the Sahara, the Rubicon, and even the Star Wars Military Dude Space Jam Whatever, are really just a set of options bolted onto a base vehicle that is then given a fancy delusional name, thirty bucks worth of childish stickers and decals, and a much higher price by some MBA marketeer who probably doesn't own a Jeep, probably avoids even gravel roads (rock chips mar the finish), probably wouldn't be caught dead in anything other than a luxury sports car with no ground clearance, and likely secretly thinks we're all hillbilly rubes. In many, if not most cases, the graphic decals and the silly name actually cost more than the actual options on the vehicle.

Now, keeping all of those thoughts in your mind, go back to the Jeep build site on the web and look at what Jeep sells without focusing on the name they put on the model. Then, see what "fits" you regardless of the silly name on it (any detailing shop can quickly remove stupid decals).

Hey, Mike. I appreciate your perspective. Considering all those things, I Dont really think that buying a Willy's makes me delusional... Maybe, I dunno. To my thinking, it has several options bundled together that I like. The led headlamps, I like the rims, black grille, and some others. I would remove that rear decal along with any dealership nonsense stuck on the back.
I'm recently retired, of course working another job now so I have some disposable income and a midlife crisis vision of the all weather convertible of my youth. Great in snow, fun in summer. No plans of off roading, which is where I guess I may seem like a loser with the Willys. I haven't taken the time to spec out a sport s with every option, admittedly, but added a bunch onto the Willys as my grand Cherokee has spoiled me with heated seats, big screen stereo etc.
I was basically only concerned because of my confusion with the Willys designation vs Willy's sport. Which still puzzles me.

Think about how much happier you'll be spending $6k less for the same build. We ordered our Sport S over in Las Vegas for 6% under invoice (w/ tread lightly discount) came out to $32k w/ 8AT & Hardtop. I know these are crazier times but from what I've seen you can still get these smokin deals in your part of the country. If your dealer won't play ball just go to a new court

That is exactly what we did! My husband would have never used the disconnecting sway bar or lockers. He got a fully loaded Willys vs a base model Rubicon. Just waiting for it to get to Oregon.

You have nothing to explain.

Jeep has done an absolutely terrible and confusing job naming the packages, in this case even worse.

Willys is the package with more options included. Consider it similar to the Sport S, on which it is based.

Willys Sport is the base package. Consider it similar to a Sport, on which it is based.

Had common sense been used, Jeep would have called them Willys (base) and Willys S (higher content).

The 4 Wheel Drive decal on the rear is a modern recreation of the original stenciled logo that was on the rear of all Willys flat fender Jeeps in the early days of CJ2a-CJ3B and some early CJ5s. They disappeared some time in the early to mid 60s. The Willys name was last stamped on the hood side of CJ3Bs in 1964 for US models and 1968 for ROW models.

Jeep did the hood decals in the same font as the original hood stampings and mimicked the stencil on the tailgate. The tall skinny mud tires on the JK and JL Willys are intended to somewhat mimic the original design as well.

Old Mike, telling it like it is in his unique way. But he is spot on here. So much of what goes into buying one of these things is emotional and those trim packages are aimed directly at the more emotionally driven buyer. I love the look of some of them, the Willys in particular, but couldn’t justify the added cost based on my actual needs. Like I mentioned before, a LSD was a must for where I live and has proven to be a good value upgrade. Same with the Premium soft top. Otherwise it’s a stock Sport S ordered and delivered for 34K OTD last year. Good luck, whatever you decide to do.

I just wrote to the dealer and even said that if they play ball with the pricing I will add in aux switches and a tow package. I'll keep you guys posted and thank you all for this discussion. Hope to be posting pics in a few months!
