Even though Jeep says we can go 20K miles between changes I wanted to take a look.

Filter is under this little skid. I also drain the water separator every time I rotate tires which is about every 3,300 miles

Pull 3 10mm bolts, pull skid, drain separator then remove housing with 28mm socket. It’s tight but not Toyota tight

I hooked the old filter with a 90 degree screwdriver to pull it loose

Make sure you line up the 2 slots with the ones in the housing, push it up, screw separator cap back on and snug it.

Before I reinstalled skid I cycled pump 3 times then started it up and checked for leaks. This is the filter I used.

just trying to help someone if they haven’t changed filter yet.

NaĂŻve question from a first-timer:

So when I loosen/remove the filter is there any "drainage" that needs to be captured to avoid a mess? In other words, do I need a catch basin, or is this a dry operation?

Need a catch pan. Before you unscrew filter housing drain water separator valve till no more diesel comes out

Punch the start button twice without your foot on the brake pedal. You’ll hear the pump run for about 20 seconds then it will stop. Push start button to turn power off then repeat. I could hear pump changing tone the third time so I was sure it had built pressure. Then I put my foot on brake and started it, fired right up.

Since there is a hole or opening by the water fuel separator valve on the cover, can the water be drained without removing the cover?

I think you are supposed to be able to but every time I tried I got aggravated and just pulled the skid/cover
