You mention using a "turkey baster" .... I have a couple of old school turkey basters in my tool box..I also use a turkey baster to suck the oil out of the bottom of filter reservoir.
I soaked up what I could of the old oil in the bottom of the filter housing but maybe next time I'll draw it out with the manual vacuum pump I have...like the one pictured. I don't wanne get too OCD on this thing in case it craps the bed on me! As for the fuel filter, I dropped it into a short bucket and reinstalled new one w/o-ring & I just primed it 4 or 5 times and it took approx. 5-8 sec and busted right off.All I was using it for was to suck the last of the oil out of the filter reservoir. I wish they built ours like the Eco2 where the oil filter is not at an angle.
After changing it out I don't even know how you could accomplish that???So as far as the fuel filter goes, would there an advantage to partially filling the housing with diesel before reinstalling?
Thinking you could pour a little diesel into the canister before you screw it back on.After changing it out I don't even know how you could accomplish that???
the 'canister' is fixed to the vehicle and plumbed with fuel lines...all that could be filled would be the cap that encloses everything and that would be pointless...just prime things properly before cranking...keep things simpleThinking you could pour a little diesel into the canister before you screw it back on.

I have the Fumoto valve installed now and with the drain tube should make things a 'clean breeze' going forward. Unscrewing the oil filter until the filter loses 'suction' and allowing it to sit for 20-30 min while the oil drains sure does make removing the filter nice & clean...just pull and turn upside down and drop into a gal freezer baggie! As for the fuel filter, I just use a 3 gal short bucket I have and place under the filter...I don't drain it, I just removed and replaced. I put the filter in the baggie w/oil filter & poured the approx quart of fuel that drained into the bucket into the oil drain pan and took to an auto parts store that takes waste oil. All this to say, is I think I have my 'system' for oil & filter changes now. Your 'system' looks even more detailed & tidy! As other have said, if you loosen the oil filter first and let it fully drain, you won't even need the mat.
