So…I bought a 22 JLU (my second JL)…got it at one of the auctions, the reason it was there was that it had been in a minor accident, but while it was in the shop a whole bunch of parts were stolen from it, to the extent that the body’s shops insurance bought it, and resold it in an auction…I got a fantastic deal on it (still has a clear title, only 2k miles), and I’ve been sourcing the parts myself…anyway, to cut to the chase, one of the parts that “disappeared” at the original body shop was the drivers door (they had it off to do some paint work in the door jamb). So now I have a new door, but I don’t have the original lock cylinder. The power door locks and windows work, but the original key does not work in the replacement doors cylinder.
Does anyone know the most efficient way to get a cylinder that matches my original key?
talked to one of the local “auto lock specialists“ places, and they “think they can “re-key” the cylinder, but are There any other options?

The easiest way would be to swap it over to the passenger door or tailgate and call it a day. If the fob dies and you need to get in, you’ll most likely be using the drivers door.

Otherwise a competent locksmith is your only real option.

You can re key it yourself in about 20 minutes if you buy a new cylinder, super easy. I did 2 new locks for my half doors, gas cap and hood lock

22s don't have a tailgate cylinder. Either does my 21.

That’s interesting. I think my ‘18 does, but to be honest I don’t know for sure. I’ve never needed the key for anything.

Can you give addl. details as to how you did this? I have a cylinder from my new door, I want to “re-key” it to match my key.

So you have to buy a new cylinder, the way the cylinders are made for the JL’s pretty much if you tear them apart most of the parts cannot be re used. If you buy a new cylinder which I believe the part was referenced it comes with everything, there are some you tube videos online as well, I’ll see if I can find a link ,

That's what I thought having built my Mopar locking gas cap and having taught the hood lock and trailer hitch lock to use the key (insert, rotate, done). Must be similar to those in some way.

Thanks so much!
The video Jay_Jeep shared looks similar to Quadratec's locking gas cap video which was very methodical. Pins placed in four numbered piles based on label. Put spring and pin in first position. Correct pin for your key allows it to go in more. Move on to next position. Lather. Rinse. Repeat.
