Hello dears,
I'm wondering about the logic of my wrangler on not UNLOCKING the doors when i press UNLOCK.
This issue occurs when I’m driving my Jeep and stop to pick up a passenger.
Here’s the situation:

  • I put the car in Park , keep the engine running or also switch it off, and press the Unlock button to open the doors.
  • Instead of unlocking, the car tries to lock itself again.

Check the attached video (just put the car in P , switched off ) and:

  • If I press Unlock, the car immediately tries to lock all doors again (doors remain locked).
  • If I press Lock, the doors stay locked as expected.
  • If I manually unlock the door turning the switch, it works — but then pressing Unlock again causes the car to lock all the doors.

Any ideas what's going on? I'm not a MOPAR logic expert, but if I press UNLOCK on the door normally i desire that the car immediately UNLOCK every door ...

The issue is that to pickup the passenger i need to reach the manual unlock switch on passenger door and manually unlock it to allow the person in... geez.
Coul it be some cable / fuse? I got my jeep used… so not sure if previous owner did something ..

UCONNECT SETTING (Attached)

Thank you very much

Check for bent pins in the connector for the driver door, especially if it's been removed/reinstalled lately. After that, next steps would probably be fuses and relays.

Uhmm. Pins seems okay? (Not super expert) plus i got the same behavior on passenger door….
Lets see if someone knows what fuse can cause this strange behavior.
thanks

Do the doors unlock/lock properly using the key fob? Do they lock/unlock with the proximity sensor in the handle and/or the little button on the handle? If your Jeep is equipped with either. Either would lead to a probable wiring issue or Body Control Module issue I think.

First check would be the pins in both door plugs that get disconnected when the doors come off. Look for bent pins AND especially missing pins by using a photo to compare both plugs.

Second, check F28 in the fuse box. I’m pretty sure it’s the one that runs the Body Control Module (BCM) which should be a 40A fuse.

Third, it may be a bad door wiring harness. If there’s any sort of warranty on the used Jeep I’d pursue that first. It’s a bit of a job to replace the harnesses which is a couple hours work that the dealer could cover.

Thank you for the answer.

Keyfob works perfectly . If i click on the key remote unlock doors always unlock. (100%)
Proximity sensor works also very good : handle hands works 100% always very good
Proximity sensor little button : I noticed that it work the majority of time, but sometime it does nothing (80% )

I dont have warranty on the door harnesses, let's hope it's not broken.

Today i try to inspect FUSE and try to inspect again the connectors, i look on youtube first exactly what is a broken / missin pin .. thanks a lot.

OTHER ASPECTS that can be usesful to determ what is going on :
1. the side passenger mirror , moves eletrical only horizzontally , it does not work vertically . (the driver one is perfect).
2. the passenger right window , does not come down immediately if i press the roll down button . I need to hold it 2 or 3 seconds and then it comes down.
3. In the original post i mention that this issue verified when i drive the car. But it happen everytime, the UNLOCK botton work as LOCK botton basically always.
4. @Ratbert , @kah.mun.rah : i tried to put in 2H , but it happen also there. :)

HEre are the connector pictures, it seems okay ?

anyone ? anyideas?
I would try disconnecting the batteries for 10 minutes and doing a reboot. Your back window sounds like a module and this might fix it. Also your bottom right pin looks bent in the pic but it's hard to tell. That might be the mirror issue.
I also turn off auto lock and just leave them unlocked until I park.

It's hard to tell by the pictures, but when I bent the pins on my harness, it was barely noticable. Mine wouldn't notice when the door was open or lock/unlock until I bent them back.

If this started happening immediately after putting doors back on, it would be my prime suspect. If it happened at another point I would look elsewhere, unfortunately I don't know where.

Thank you
I checked and checked all the pins looks okay to me (new foto below) .
However this my doors always locks, the only solution i have, - like you suggested - is to remove the automatic lock when driving.

The red arrow is your unlock pin. Blue is your passenger mirror vertical control. (someone correct me if I have this wrong) Check both sides of the plug for those. There's another pin that tracks door lock status like @SlickRicksWilly mentioned. It should be in a mirrored position to the blue arrow (2nd position in from the left, top row)

If the connector, relays, and fuses are good, my guess is that a significant amount of water made its way into that driver door and just shorted things out, meaning you'd need to replace those switch modules.

Also, how long have you had the Jeep and is there an aftermarket alarm or key fob for remote entry. I've seen some bad aftermarket alarm installs mess with all kinds of functionality in the vehicle and when removed everything goes back to the way it was.

So it’s off warranty, how old is the Jeep? Broken wires in the door harness where it folds every time you open it is pretty common and results in some weird issues like you are having.

First of all, thank you very much for all your help.

warranty
The Jeep is a 2019 model, out of warranty. I bought it used and it only has a one year warranty on the engine.

Not limited to driver door
Today I disassembled the passenger side. As seen in the video, I’m experiencing the same issue with the passenger lock button. When I press “unlock,” it actually locks.

All the pins look perfectly fine. The passenger side connector felt like it had never been unplugged before. It was clean, shiny, and harder to disconnect. (Passenger pin foto attached)

Unmmmmm
I’m starting to think the issue isn’t with the pins or switches. Even when I unplug the driver side door, the same problem still happens on the passenger side.
Maybe i am wrong but if the issue was on the driver door by disconnecting it the passenger side should have worked correctly no ?

My car doesn’t have an alarm system. It’s pretty much stock.
