Looking to go the same route as others here. Can somebody provide a picture with the door steps installed in their JL, from far away?

I used a single washer to fill the gap in the hinge where where original hinge screw head recessed into. Seemed to work very well.

Did anyone else beside me have issues getting some of the bolts off the doors? I was only able to get the steps on the rear doors but the front two were incredibly difficult to break.

Also one of my sets is missing one rubber grommet. It's almost like something is telling me not to put the front two on!!

Do you think that bedliner spray would adhere to the foot pegs. I don't like the cheap galvanized steel look to the pegs.

Yes I think it would. I got my entire jeep including doorsteps sprayed with kevlar so I think bedliner would apply the same.

What brush guard is that on your bumper? Does it fit against the JLUR steel bumper without drilling?
Yup. JCR offroad pre runner tube. No drilling. You use the existing bolts from your steel bumper.

I just finished installing the Smittybilt Atlas steps (well one pair of them anyway on the back doors - still need to do the other half). A couple of observations;

1. This thread was a huge help. if you're thinking of doing these and have never installed them before, take the 2 minutes of your life and read through the thread. there's some helpful information above my post in the previous 4 pages
2. they are a direct size fit for the JL. everything lined up, perfectly
3. use the bolts included with the steps (not the bolts you take out of the door). the bolts in the door are concave, the included are flat. the screw heads lay flat against the step bracket - so use the included screws
4. the included screws are NOT T-50. they're the other size on the Jeep. I used the Jeep-included toolkit (the longer, smaller one) inside of a 1/4" socket to put them on, worked fine
5. go ahead and break down and buy a T-50 3/8-socket. They're $2 at lowes / home depot. breaking the paint on the T-50 door screws with the Jeep-included puny tool sucks. while you're at it pick up the second size too (I didn't because I assumed the included bolts were T-50)
6. do NOT open the door etc once you remove the door bolts, and it will be fine. everything stays aligned.
7. if you want to try to get close-color match paint, when you go to lowes, take ONE door bolt out and carry it in with you. I have an OBlue JLUR, so the bolt looked sort of close to the Cobalt rustoleum or something.
8. the steps come apart pretty easy (3/8" socket and an allen wrench) there are a lot of little/big washers in a specific order, so if you take one apart, have one to look at to put it back together. or take a picture. it's easy, but I bet if you get them out of order something doesn't work right.
9. the tighter you screw the steps back together, the stiffer the step to come down. (obviously). I torqued the step back together pretty tight because I wanted it to take some force to pull out the step
10. you CAN paint the galv-steel step, but the paint wasn't sticking particularly well. maybe primer would help, or scuffing it up some, or whatever. I have little areas where the paint has come off from bouncing around during installation so we'll see how it goes. worst case I just put some paint thinner on them and clean it off.
11. I didn't get the plastic cone-washers (mentioned earlier in the thread) to work because lowes didn't have something that was even close. I DID get the 3/8 washers mentioned above (and I painted them) and they worked great. Again - if you take a door bolt in with you, it helps you get really close on the size you need; you're trying to get a washer that is the outer diameter of the factory door bolt, a hair under. the new bolt also has to be able to go through the hole in the middle
12. using just the 3/8 washers, I had no bowing-in of the bracket. worked fine with just the washers
13. there is a LOT of rubber on the step gaskets. I trimmed (eyeballed) them a bit, probably 1/8" all around and on the corners a bit more, so they weren't sticking out. as I torqued the door bolts down, the rubber squished and came right up to the edge of the bracket, maybe a teensy more, but definitely not unsightly like if the whole gasket was there untrimmed

All in all, probably took me about an hour to install the pair. I was taking my time, someone more proficient could do it quicker but I wasn't in a hurry. waiting on paint to dry etc. I definitely like the colored step over the galv steel; if the paint doesn't stick long-term (I'm suspecting it won't) I'll go get them powder coated or put lineX on them.

anyway - hope the notes help someone looking to do similar. they definitely are very solid steps to help get up on top - now i just need the roof racks to start coming out.

That's a really good idea about the rubber parts to fill the void. I actually just picked up more washers. I doubled them up and was able to torque to specs. I couldn't find any rubber cone pieces..I almost went to the toilet section though lol. 4 bags of these did the trick.

Did you put one on each side for each bolt? Or where just 2 on one side?
