Research, read, check forums, get proper tools and then reread and check forums for updates and then put away some time and enjoy wrenching on your Jeep. That was the plan but then this happened.

One side on and rounding the bases to finish her off....damn stripped screw. Took my time too and then of course the Jeep gods cursed me again nothin is easy young man.

Anyone got ideas on how to get this screw out? Retap it, drill it out with another screw? Just need some input to get a different perspective.

Ive seen people good with a dremel cut a groves for a screw driver. Had it happen to me on my tj and i ground off the paint and welded a nut to it. Cover your surrounding area with a few layers of painters tape to protect it

How did you end up getting it out? I have one or two that are stripped.

I heated the area with a heat gun. Then got the t40 and banged it in with a mallet till it was literally stuck in there!! Then I used a breaker bar and slowly turned it till it finally let go. Take your time and yes it’s sucks because the other screws came out no problem.

Has anyone tried the Kargo Master hinge steps on the JL yet? Or is it safe to assume they will fit since the Atlas mentioned above were originally for JKs?

How'd you get it out? I just installed the passenger side step without an issue but the first bolt on the driver's side is toast. I'm at a loss. Well, I have a couple of ideas but none of them great. I need that damn bolt out!

EDIT: Never mind, I found your answer. I'll have to try it

2ND EDIT: You used a T40? How'd that work going smaller? I was thinking I'd need to go up a size

Finally got that damn screw out! Holy crap. Live and learn. Hope I never have to go through that again!!

That's a really good idea about the rubber parts to fill the void. I actually just picked up more washers. I doubled them up and was able to torque to specs. I couldn't find any rubber cone pieces..I almost went to the toilet section though lol. 4 bags of these did the trick.

I wonder if these would work. States they work with 1/3 or 8mm bolts. Im thinking of adding these to my JLU

Good question. I would think if you started with the correct torx head and ever so gently applied pressure to loosen the bolt that would work. If it begins to strip the head you already have your back up. Let us know how it goes!

After read all the posts here, anyone actually got all the torx bolts out without strip any of them? lol. I have heat gun, impact grade T50, breaker bar and impact wrench, and still scare of doing it.

I need my emotional support animal while doing this!
