After read all the posts here, anyone actually got all the torx bolts out without strip any of them? lol. I have heat gun, impact grade T50, breaker bar and impact wrench, and still scare of doing it.

I need my emotional support animal while doing this!
Let us know how it goes!

I tried the T50, but ended up stripping the bolt a little, so stopped. I plan on going to the extractor directly.

Thanks for the update.

I used the extractor tool on some stripped bolts that fastened hurricane shutters to our exterior concrete walls. They came out easily using that tool.

Share with us how using the extractor goes?

I got all of them out using a breaker bar. I made it to the last bolt and it started to strip. I knew it was going to happen. I started to sweat a lot and pleaded with God. It came out, but I definitely had a moment there. But yes, it can be done.

Looks good. Do you think its so difficult because of the paint or are they just torqued on real tight?

I saw this video on YouTube showing the channel owner using a small spring loaded punch to work around the bolts and him saying it is because of the paint. Looked like it made it a little easier to get the bolts out.

Update - I actually managed to remove the bolts using a breaker bar!!! Started installing the Metalcloak Pro Step hing steps and realized they sent me a wrong spacers, JK instead of JL. They just confirmed that they are overnighting them, so should have my steps installed then.

Hmm, never thought of using a punch. I actually think it was torqued way too tight AND it was the paint. I know some people have used a heat gun (carefully, of course) and said that makes it easier. But with a breaker bar and a whole lot of patience you should be able to do it.

Looks awesome - I ordered these today. Did you have any issues with removing the OE bolts with them stripping? I've read replies in this thread that some had that issue? Any advice for removing the bolts?

Thanks. I bought a set of Lexivon Torx heads (95% 4/5 star rating on Amazon) Size T-50 correct? I tested the head on the bolt and I can see it does not go in very far and will need some gentle tapping to get seated. Just need to pick up a breaker bar! thanks for your advice.

I believe it was a T-50 (I think). You are right, you will definitely have to tap the bolt to get it seated-some of them took a little more than gentle tapping. I know some people even used a heat gun to break the paint around the bolt. I didn't want to do that though.
Honestly, just know that even though it is a simple job, it will take some time and every single bolt will come out no problem, except the last one. Definitely pick up a breaker bar though; I think it would have been impossible without it. Good luck-looking forward to some pictures!

I'm prepping! Got the steps today.

Did you notice if there was any Loctite on the OE bolts you removed?

I'm sorry Russ, I didn't notice...but I sure felt as though there was! What steps did you go with?

No prob. I just saw a picture on pg 2 in this thread comparing the OE bolts to the ones that come with the step. Doesn’t look as though they had loctite on them.
