Door Hinge Steps Installation Problem

I just purchased a pair of Door Hinge Steps, followed all the steps on previous posts. When I went to put the new bolts in the bar nut thing inside the door, it appears to be angled and now two of the bolts won't thread in. I didn't use force and they were like that when I unscrewed the original Torx 50 bolts. Do I have to remove the plastic door panel to align it better so they screw in? It's a Jeep Wrangler JL Sport 2021. Photos attached, don't mind the dirt.

She needed to open the door panel to bend the bolt-plate back, but it sounded easy.

@LittleDog Thank you very much for your help. I couldn't find assistance anywhere online about this. I have a feeling it's not that common.
