problem solved

https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/forum/threads/door-hinge-paint-protection.8032/

I just did 3M pro film on my entire Wrangler

The person that suggest the rock rails will save the doors, not so fast, in fact I have GoRhino Dominator d-^ (6") sliders even they do not stop all the trow back, however the Rokblokz mudflaps do stop 90% (the wide version)

In fact just di more than 50 miles of forest service gravel roads last weekend, nothing., You really need the combo (film and flaps and you will be goo to go.

You can also buy full hard plastic covers on ebay and amazon that will also protect.

Your entire Wrangler is wrapped in 3M?
I did the Full Hood, 4-doors, 4 fenders and 4 fender flairs, I did not do the tailgate or grill cost was $1600 installed. No more trail pin stripes or rock chips, as well will look like new for years to come

I have a 2018 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon JL - This is my 5th Wrangler and my third 4 door Wrangler. I purchased mine new April 2018. My door hinges have an incredible amount of chips to the bare metal. I do not live on a stone road or rarely drive stone roads and have not taken this jeep offroad yet. The chipping and condition of my hinges after one year of time is awful. I will include pics. To me this is a design flaw with the new Rubicon JL's that is causing this issue with rocks being able to be thrown onto these hinges. I know there are aftermarket 3M vinyl that people are putting on them and covers but this seems unacceptable to me for a 50K plus vehicle. My question for all the Rubicon owners (I have been told it is only happening on Rubicons due to the different fender flares and larger tires) does having
jeep hinge.png
some kind of slider that sticks out prevent this from happening. I have made a report to Jeep Cares on this issue and it has not been resolved yet but ultimately they should be painted. It is way too many chips on them to use touch-up paint. Can those of you that have the non-factory rock rails tell me if that seems to stop this issue. I wonder if a wider rock rail or slider would stop the rocks from hitting the hinges. Thanks.
35k miles on my JLUS since May 18 and my rear door hinges look just as bad as yours. The last 20k miles have been with ICI Magnum side steps that have deflected a lot of the rocks. Now swapping for the OEM Mopar side steps to get better protection from rocks.

I purchase my JLU Sport S in December '18. I have almost no paint left on my drivers side passenger hinge, and chips all over the rest. I even have chips on my windshield hinges. I only have 3000 miles on my vehicle. I took it to the dealer and they said they wouldn't fix it, that it is a known Jeep problem, and that I should have known it would happen when I drove off the lot. Needless to say I was not happy. I live in town, on paved streets, and have not taken it off road as of yet. I am not happy.

You have to be proactive. to avoid this install steps/running boards, then good mud flaps. I just rand 50 miles of forest service roads which are all dirt and gravel and nothing not a single chip or scratch. I have 6" wide sliders and extra wide mud flaps. I do not even get mod or dirt thrown from tires it is all caught before the hinges or body

What mud flaps do you use, and front only? Would they fit on a JLUR? From what I understand Rubi mudflaps are different.

I find this very hard to believe that you have only driven on paved roads and assuming you have No lift or aftermarket tires you are getting chips in the hinge paint???

However did you fail to mentioned you are in Anchorage ALASKA potentially driving on snow, ice, slush that is often sanded? Or roads that were previous sanded and the snow has melted leaving sand and gravel on the paved roads?

I do not see how this is jeep issue assuming you have stock tires $50 of mudflaps solves the issue.

I assume I am reading between the lines properly... If not I stand corrected.

Just sayin. Maybe jeep should provide stock mud flaps.

they are the Go Rhino Dominator D-6 Sliders, the drop steps are optional, however they are removable for when you need the extra clearance that is what sold me on them. Also GoRhino has a 5 year finish warranty on them (best in the industry). This is the mod I that gets the most attention and compliments by far.

Also note the D-6 stands for 6" wider, they are actually a slider as well but the wide running board blocks a lot of debris from the tires.

Here is the review and install thread that sold me on them

Slider GoRhino #D64506T is $396 at Amazon https://www.amazon.com/Go-Rhino-D64506T-Full-Length-Powdercoat/dp/B07D1TZLCD

Pair of Dominator D6 Drop Steps D6410000T is $116 per set https://www.carid.com/go-rhino/4-bl...ominator-d6-running-boards-mpn-d6410000t.html

These are the best online prices I had Quadratec Price match free shipping and no sales tax

I went into my dealer and they took photos. They said Jeep refused to do anything about it because it was an outside/exterior issue.
