We might be hard pressed to find people who "like" ESS.

Finding those who don't, of course, is easy.

But what we might find is people who on the whole like the principles behind how ESS, in the long run, for many drivers, saves gas: good for the wallet, good for the environment.

I’m used to it already. Used to it in, remembering to de activate it by switching it off!

First time it happened. I heard it restart and was like can’t be something wrong already just drove it off the lot!

Hate it with a passion.

I just can’t get used to it.

We have 2 vehicles with it. Disconnected it on both.

Put me in the "don’t mind it" camp. I thought mine was intermittent until I realized I wasn’t pressing hard enough on the brake pedal at stops.

This may have already been said as this is the only page of this thread I’ve read, but I try to let off the brake just enough to start the motor right before the light turns green to save wear on the drivetrain.

Hate stop start motor features. I want zero lag. Have also heard that it isnt great for timing chains.

I like where you're going with that idea @Sean L in that I tend to engine break my automatic.

Under the principle that ESS doesn't engage if the automatic rig is not in automatic, be it in the neutral you describe, or a user initiate manual gear like I might on occasion access, the same is achieved.
Yeah, with the way I do it, it's only in neutral for a second at most before I put it in park. As I'm pulling in my driveway/parking spot and stopping I push the selector into neutral just before coming to a complete stop, and once I am at a stop I put it in park. Then after that I just shut it off like normal.

Engine braking doesn't seem to do much unless I'm going down a steep enough hill, or I do an 8-4 downshift... lots of clicks. :)

Not nescessarily. I suspect it places a lot of strain on the starting system and that part (those parts) will wear out more quickly.

Also sometimes you need to accelerate away quickly for what ever reason and ESS reduces acceleration - a potentially dangerous situation..

Increases strain is why the starter on an ESS vehicle is a much heavier duty starter than on non ESS Vehicles.

Most of the time, by the time you see a vehicle is going to hit you not even a viper could accelerate fast enough to escape. Last time I was hit all I had time to do was pull my foot off of the brake and BAM!

BTW I have no problem accelerating away from a full ESS stop, just like any other vehicle I've driven.

Bull. Restart occurs immediately at the slightest touch of the clutch or relaxation of the brake pedal. Probably faster than a human can react.

Fair point @Joe98 . There's no denying that all mechanic parts, like starters, are subject to wear and tear with use. I would *hope* though that today's vehicle starting mechanisms are not our parent's generation's ones and exhibit much higher MTBF (mean time between failure) metrics.

As for me, I have never found ESS to delay my forward movement from a complete stop. Then again, I've yet (and I hope it remains the case) never felt in my JL, the need to egress a location with speed in the interest of my safety (whatever the danger, be it dangerous people and/or the vehicles they drive or simply oncoming traffic while I make a left turn) and still more, in fairness to your point, I'll have to see if ESS still responds as quickly 3 years from now as it does today, when my JL is relatively new.
