I never have and never will understand the “manual sucks in traffic” argument.
I guess it's all relative to how much traffic you are stuck in and maybe how much you love your manual transmission. For some, 10 minutes of stop and go is "heavy traffic". Around the Dallas area, you may be working your clutch several hundred times when you're stuck in traffic that just inches along for an hour or so. Most would agree THAT is not fun.

I have always loved a manual and being in control of what gear my transmission is in and being able to downshift for curves, etc. But, my 4 door Wrangler is quite a bit larger and different than my previous daily driver... a 2016 Mini Cooper S with a manual and on it's 4th set of tires at 40K miles. :like:

For me, with my JLRU, I opted for the 8 spd. auto and love it, but I do miss my manual sometimes.

I bought my Jeep out of the first shipment of JLUs that had gotten to my dealer. I test drove a Black JLU Sport straight off of the truck, and the salesman had never seen one until we walked out to where it was parked. That had the 8 speed auto, the same at the Silver JLU Sahara I bought and every other JLU that came in that delivery, save one. A White JLU Sahara 6 speed that had every option and was the single most expensive Jeep in that shipment. I saved 16 grand not buying that one.

No regrets getting the automatic.

Does anyone out there regret their transmission choice and if so, why?

Trying to decide and all practicality pushes me to an automatic (family, wife that can’t drive nor wants to learn, decent commute time with traffic, etc.) but my heart wants the manual for the simple fun of it.

Talking to a friend recently, he said he thought there is a higher chance I will get the manual and regret it later than if I get an automatic. I am curious to see if anyone here has those regrets or vice-versa.
I’m an automatic guy. Had a stick when I was younger. Now a days I’m not mountain climbing. Why work when you don’t have to.
And f that bs stick they put on an automatic.

We have had no 'issues' with the 8-speed on our off-road jaunts. We don't do rock-hopping, but we do some decent off-highway roads and trails - Medano Pass just this past weekend, for example. The 8-speed works just fine for us.

I bought a 2015 JK new and thought I could live with the automatic...I was wrong! I had it about a month before I deeply regretted not getting the manual. Soooo, I just bought a 2020 JL and of course got the manual trans- I LOVE it! Get the manual!

This is my fourth Jeep and first automatic. There were no manuals available when I bought mine so I thought I’d like it ok. The automatic is a good transmission but I regret and miss having a manual transmission. I will trade this one in a few years and get a manual for sure.

If you want a transmission that will last longer, go with the manual. But knowing that you want to buy a Jeep means you probably don’t care about reliability that much so go with the automatic.

This is my first jeep, and I have always driven manual cars, I was not ready to switch to an automatic. I was a little hesitant at first after test driving a 2 door manual as it handled differently then any other manual that I have owned, I knew it would take some getting used to. But that was very fast and I don't regret my descision for a second. I knew I wouldn't be happy with an automatic and had to go with my gut.

Manual owner. Zero regrets. I do a stop and go, hour long commute (each way) and couldn’t be happier with my choice. Taught my oldest teen how to drive it, and my next oldest will be sixteen in a few months...

Get whatever is going to make you smile when you’re behind the wheel.
Exactly.
I love driving my JLUR MT on and especially off-road. You are purchasing happiness, so definitely test drive both and get the one that makes you smile!
As for stop and go traffic, I find that first gear is slow enough to crawl behind the car in front and the auto stop/start works great for when you’re come to a standstill (you put it in neutral anyway) and then eventually start again.

Yep, I do the same. You don't even need to touch the gas to start from a stop. Slow release of clutch and just crawl. (I have 2dr Rubi, but assume even Sport/Sahara gearing would allow this.) I do get some asshats who feel I'm leaving too big a gap when I crawl like that and they'll make a show of passing me just to close the gap... and then they nail the brakes and stop because IT'S A TRAFFIC JAM. I just smile and shake my head.

Not sure if I answered, but don't care if I repeat myself

If I wanted an auto, I'd just keep my Ram.
