Does anyone have any insight on a digital rearview mirror? I've seen a couple of them in cars driving around Southern California, and they look really nice. I'm just wondering if anyone here has one and can provide some input on wiring routing, installation, price point, etc. Thanks!

Edit 1: i have a 2022 JLU sport

Looking for something similar to this:

We have one in my wife’s Buick. I’m not really a fan. For me it’s a depth perception thing. When it’s off (old school mirror mode) I can see and judge distances. When on it’s like my mind’s eye is looking at a screen, which I am, if that makes any sense. It’s a little unnerving… not terrible but I turn it off whenever I’m in the car. Wife likes it. ĀÆ\_(惄)_/ĀÆ

The cool thing is when you’re packed full, you see out the back.

If you haven’t driven one, maybe take a test drive on something to see how you like it. Then, shop when you’re ready … although there is that free returns thing with Amazon.

I installed the Wolfbox since with 37's my view wasn't very good. I got the hardwire kit and used fuse F52 ( Cig lighter) for the ACC and fuse F45 for the Constant power - just grounded to the bolt by the fuse box. I ran the wires to the passenger side - you just have to unbolt the pass side visor and run them down the a pillar .. wolfbox has an easy video to follow.

I have a 12" Wolfbox G900 in mine. It is nice, but the basic mount has it is attached to the original mirror by bands akin to large rubber bands in a way. This pushes the mirror out towards you and the position is slightly distracting as it just does not "feel" normal. Additionally, since it is 12" it interferes with the sun visors. So, you have to disconnect them pull them out then fold down if you want to use them. I mainly have it for the add'l rearview camera when driving. However, I find myself turning it off the vast majority of the time. If you are looking to get one at least for a Wrangler, I Would go with a 9" or 10" version. Which might help with the sun visor issue. Additionally, I would pic one that did not necessarily have a front camera, or the front camera is positioned differently or even detached from the mirror itself. As the Wolfbox ones force the camera to be on the side of the mirror when attached. Which also contributes to the sunvisor issue.

I'm not a fan of the Wolfbox mirrors, as they have a bunch of cables sticking out, they don't clear the visors, and the front camera isn't detachable so if you have the ACC box on your windshield it blocks a lot of the front camera view.

I chose the Autovox T9Pro which eliminates all of those issues and they provide you with a free OEM style mount by emailing them your order info if the included ones don't work for your vehicle. I'll be installing mine as soon as I get my Jeep back from it's HV battery replacement but another member here has installed 2 of them and been very happy. They also give an 18 month warranty on it.

To echo what was said above, they are definitely a little different to use and take some getting used to. The loaner I currently have is a 24 Grand Cherokee 4xe and has the cam mirror. It's been about 2 weeks and I'm finally getting more comfortable with it, however they did a poor job of placing/angling it and I think my camera will be a lot better. The GC camera is mounted above the rear window and shoots straight back, so it really messes with the perspective and even with the camera adjustment down as much as possible (you can adjust the view a bit from the mirror) when a car is stopped behind you you'll swear they're literally eating your bumper. When a car pulls a little closer than normal it's not uncommon that I can't even see their hood and am looking straight into the windshield.

I'm planning to have a slight bit more downward angle on my camera which I think will alleviate some of these issues and give a better field of view, but at least all of the aftermarket ones are adjustable and you can put them wherever you feel works best for you.

Update: I went with the Wolfbox G900 12". I just installed it today and went for a drive.

Pros:
1. it's kickass. Lots of features, crystal clear picture, barely any lag.
2. I like the GPS feature. It's nice that it records speed and coordinates if you unfortunately get in an accident or have to turn over the video to an LEO.

Cons:
1. There are lots of wires: 1 wire for power, 1 wire for GPS, and 1 wire for the rear camera. There are some pretty good YouTube videos about how to run the wires, but they are time-consuming.
2. you need to buy the OEM bracket for the mirror; as stated above, the kit comes with some bands to attach to your existing mirror. This does push it out a lot.
3. The 12" is pretty big. Go with the 10" or smaller, it does get snagged on your visors.

Overall: 8.5/10. I think with some Janky Rigging, and some modifications, i can get it to how i want it. i will post more pictures shortly.

Good choice! The G900 is meant to display more on the mirror, that's why it's bigger šŸ˜„

G930 is recommended for those who mind the interference with the sun visor, whose rear cam is 1080P while that of G900 is 2.5K.

Nice, when you get a chance would love to see pics as those are all the same issues I have with it and have been looking for a detached front camera one to dump my G900.

Will do! Here's the thread from @yarmo where he initially installed the Autovox V5Pro but then later swapped it to the V9Pro with the detachable front camera and also got their OEM style mount.

Might anyone have a solution for dashcam mirror that has the standard features of 1) digital rear view 2) dashcam front recording PLUS 3) third (external) camera input. I lost my trail cam with my latest jeep and would like to try this setup, assuming it exists somewhere. I’ve seen people use the rear view camera and install it in the front, but I’d rather not have to sacrifice that and have the option to toggle both. Note, I already have a factory backup camera. Thanks in advance.

I don't think I've seen one with a non-internal third camera. Maybe @WOLFBOX CAR LIFE knows of one?

You can't simply replace your "lost" trail cam?

Sorry, we don't provide that kind of dash cam for now. Some of our customers purchased an additional rear cam and placed it on the front bumper. When off-roading, they plug the front-bumper-cam in, when on road, they plug the rear cam back in.šŸ˜„
