It probably wasn’t full...that gauge has a bad habit of saying it’s full or close to it when it’s not. I hand-filled mine with my sales guy upon delivery to just under a full DEF tank and have about 87% left on the gauge after 1000 miles.
Good to know! Thanks. It had me concerned!

Mine was nearly empty before I took the vehicle yesterday but the dealer topped it off and gave me the can for later refills?
I believe a warning light comes on if the DEF is nearly empty and it won't start the engine?

What is the danger of driving with low DEF? Damage to exhaust or Cat Convertor?

There is no mechanical danger to the vehicle. The risk is that the computer decides to put the vehicle into limp mode or strand you a long way from more DEF.

1950 miles and the 400 mile warning came on. Not sure if it was delivered full, though.
Fill it by hand and you’ll be much happier with the longevity of a full tank.

I filled mine up to the top the day I picked it up and at 2500 miles I have 3/4 of a tank left. I can see 9k out of a tank if its gauge is accurate. My 2018 3500 uses very little DEF except when I am towing something.

The only reason for the de-rate when the DEF gets really low is for EPA emission output only. The engine would run the same with or without DEF.

Loving my Diesel Rubicon so far but I don’t believe we will get anywhere near the 10k miles per DEF tank that I heard previously. Mine was almost full when purchased and after about 3k miles I’m less than 1/4 of a tank. I prob have more miles on mine than most people but has anyone else noticed their usage of DEF? Not a big deal but just curious if my rate of DEF usage is typical.

I just got my JLUR Ecodiesel as well and have been extremely disappointed in just how much def I've gone through. Left VA, the jeep had 600 miles and got back with 5400 - drove it to Colorado and back. I went had to buy 7 gallons of DEF over-and-above the full def tank I started with when I bought the thing. It's now sitting at about 1/2. So WAY more usage than the 10k or so that I heard FCA say would be the case. Guess I'll be heading to the dealership cuz this does not seem right. Thanks for the post!

My DEF tank was topped off when delivered, and it’s already down 1/3 after 2100 miles.

I’m at 1/4 of def left with just over 5k miles. 60% city driving

When I get back from the arctic this weekend I’ll be topping off the DEF tank by hand. The gauge is a joke and dealers rarely if ever truly fill the tank. They go by the gauge which I have confirmed lies just as badly as the fuel gauge.

I have put in 21 gallons of DEF fluid in DEF tank and at 10K miles it is almost empty and ready for more!
