This morning, I awoke to a totally dead electrical system. The Doors wouldnt even unlock. I used the switchblade key and looked around, to check to see what I did, the night before.
I then saw the tranny was still in reverse. I put it in park, and still nothing. Totally dead.
When I parked it, the night before, I was almost stopped, when I opened the door, to see if I cleared my bushes. The silly nanny system put it in park, automatically. I engaged the parking brake, as usual, turned the engine off, and locked up. All without realizing it was still in reverse.
I guess this Auto Tranny Wrangler doesnt like being left in gear, because it drained the battery dead dead dead.
I then tried to put it in neutral, and it wouldnt go, electronic nanny in control. I have a truck and a car, that I could use to jump start. No go, all blocked. Lucky for me, I had a neighbor jump start the Jeep, and I was off to work. I left it running for about 25 minutes, in hopes this will give it a little charge.
Anyone out here know why it would do this??? Anyone else have this happen??

If you leave the transmission in any position other than park and hit the button to shut the engine off it will automatically move to accessory rather than off. The computer should have been chiming and telling you to put the shifter into park at that point. I guess the timer to shut off the computer is disengaged in that circumstance.

Edit: If this should happen again, take the cover off in front of the shifter and reach down and pull the tab. This will manually take the Jeep out of park and allow you to push the Jeep wherever you need it for a Jump start.

lol, hopefully it won't happen again. I also had trouble a few years ago when I bought my Ram 1500, and it was the first Auto transmission I'd ever owned. I had a problem leaving it in drive after I parked and I wanted to rip the key out when It wouldn't let me take it out, lol.

I never said it was the total fault of the Jeep, but thank you sooo much, your helpful comment.
If you took the time to read my post, instead of being a D**k, you would realize that.
I just think it is a design flaw, that allows the battery to drain, for some reason, when left in gear, even though the Nanny Tranny automatically put it in park.

I will be hooking up a trickle charger to it, tonight. Just because my driving is only a couple of miles at a time, during the week.

I did the same thing, with the same result.
To say that our failure to put the nanny-tranny in park makes it our fault that the Jeep went bone-stone-dead is, for want of a better term, idiotic.

I think most of us have done something to run the battery down at some point in our lives. :like:

I love my Jeep. I HATE all of the nanny-state crap which assumes I am an idiot who is incapable of making responsible decisions.
