I finally was able to visit a local dealer and get a test drive of the new Jl. Unfortunately it was a Sport base unlimited with automatic 3.6 engine. My interest is in a Rubicon unlimited with 3.6 auto. How different feeling, would that jeep be compared to just purely driving experience than a Sport? Coming from a bmw 340 x drive msport; the Wrangler feels decently peppy. I was quite surprised.

The sport and sahara models have 3.45 final drive ratios. The Rubicon has 4.10, which would make it a lttle bit peppier but run at a slightly higher rpm at a given speed.

The Rubicon also has bigger tires which sort of negates the final drive ratio.

I drove a 2018 sport (JK) for a week before buying my Rubicon. I’d say the Rubicon feels a bit more “trucky” and maybe a bit more powerful. If you liked the Sport, you definitely wont be disapointed by the Rubicon.

The difference in tire size in no way negates going from 3.45 to 4.10. It helps a little but that a big difference in gear ratio.

Well if that's your interest, go drive a Rubi!

No dealer around me willing to give a test drive in one.
What? Why on earth not? They let you drive sport but not a Rubi? I mean that makes zero sense. But assuming there is some reason for that, you could always rent one on Turo I suppose.

Are we going to argue about “sort of”, “in no way” and “helps a little”?
These are deeply technical terms in need of much debate.

As for test drives, many dealers will approach the Rubicon as a premium model, because it is, and only offer a test drive to a nearly sure buyer. They want to offer the top end models at the lowest possible mileage, so, no lookie loos.

The Rubicon comes with so much stuff that the Sport does not... HD brakes, power inverter for 115v plug, highline fenders front and rear, the axles, 4:1 reduction gear in 4low, loads of stuff. You want, just get.

That having been said, it's a Rubicon, you are going to put 37's and 5.13's in it anyway.

I'ma do 38 Milestar Patagonias, and likely 5.13's, but first I want to drive it around for a few months and shake it down, make sure the engine and suspension are sound and fit for modding.

KZ.

Feels good.

All local dealers around NYC are shitty; jeep or not. I came into dealer with intention to test drive a rubicon and they refused to provide one. I won't buy within state; therefore I just wanted to know to those who know the difference in ride. If it feels more or less the same or is suspension softer or firm etc. thanks.

Why in the hell would they let you drive a sport but not a rubicon. We aren’t talking about a civic versus laferrari
Every hear of Shady dealers? Welcome to NYC.
