Now I'm leaning towards pulling the trigger on the tried-and-true 3.6L vs. waiting for the diesel or risking the new 2.0T.

Oh boy. You NEEEEEEED to test that 2L turbo before you decide. Talk about peppy! Just a reminder too that the turbo isn't all that new (it's been around for some time on other models), and it's on it's 3rd year for the wrangler. My Sahara is a 2L turbo, but we opted out of the etorque because of it's age (there was also some sort of issue with the etorque on the turbo, which is why it was pulled for the 2020 models), but I wouldn't worry TOO much about the turbo itself.
