My paranoia about a mere twig taking those out was a big part of me avoiding 4 auto.
Me too, but my Rubi (without 4 auto) still came with them. I was NOT happy…

I was under the impression that those fragile boots were directly associated with 4wd auto. That's surprising.
pretty sure all 24+ Wranglers with front d44 have them. Not sure about sports with d30s.

I don't get the hate for CV type joints. I believe what we have is called a "Rzeppa joint" in the steering knuckle. I've had four Jeeps that had these (23 Glady Mojave, 23 Glady Rubicon Diesel, 24 Glady Nighthawk, and my 25 JLU rubicon) and never had any issue with any of them.

For reference, all 600+ HP on my R1S hits the tires through four double-Rpezza joints, and there are not documented widespread failures on even the Quad motor R1's. Cracked aluminum subframes, yes... Not the CV joints.

If you crawl under each and every single 2018+ JL/JT on the planet, there are CV type joints on both the front and rear driveshafts.

The hate is not about the joint strength, it is about the susceptibility of the boot to damage on the trail.

One twig, and you are done.

Boot failure does not equal instant death of the joint. Carry a roll of electrical tape if you are worried, it does a really good job of stemming the leak of a cracked boot.

When you spend some time outside of the trail, you understand what happen to rubber boot at the wheels. got enough already of brake line and speed sensor.

I am in talks with the shop right now that agreed to just replace the boot. He is talking with Autozone to find a kit

Agreed, but it does involve a fair amount of work for the repair, and that’s assuming you find it right away.

Trust me, I've had my fair share of goofy trail damage over the years. Had the rear ABS wiring harness ripped out of my old Land Cruiser by a 6" log that popped up and over the rear axle driving down a simple flat trail.

Guys, Mopar axle assembly is on backorder Nationwide with no ETA available. And no aftermarket boot kit is available for my Jeep ☹ so I guess I will fill it with grease and duct tape it. What grease should I buy? And what kind of tape? What if I fill it with grease, and then super glue some rubber on the tear, or super glue multiple layers of tape on the tear?

NAPA has the boot from the other thread in stock. Order one.
