Joining the club 9 days after taking delivery. Told my wife that I went through at least 5 windshields on my TJ and that it was a Jeep thing. Fortunately, we have free glass replacement so I'm glad the rock hit the glass and not the hood or the windshield frame.

Holy shit that escalated quickly... was just parked sitting here typing this post and it did this!!

Got hit on the way home from Moab yesterday, really small chip, within 50 miles it was 7 inches longer. I had far larger divots on my Dodge Ram that never spread.

Made it through a stretch of highway where it looked like someone dumped a load of gravel. Thought I was in the clear but heck no. 5 minutes past and wham. A nice 1 inch rock nailed my windshield then came to momentarily rest on my wiper as if to rub it in my face. A nice 8 inch crack. Getting my new windshield Tuesday.

A jackwagon in a hurry passed me in Moab today in a no passing zone and kicked up some gravel and boom...spreading crack. Dickwad.

I just joined the club! With almost 6500 miles, my wife was driving home the other night when a tractor trailer passed and something flew up and cracked the damn windshield. Really sucks.

Sorry of I didn’t go through all 15 pages of this thread but, has no one found a solution to this ?
I heard about gorilla glass coming but would it be possible to have a thick transparent film/wrap over it?

I'm in. Less than 3,000 miles. Didn't even hear a rock. Just noticed a crack on my way in to work (see pic below). When I went out after work, it was about 2/3 of the way across.

Just got my windshield replaced this week. One positive is the new one doesn't appear to have the built in suction cup marks. Wonder if that was an issue at the windshield supplier that eventually got corrected?

I just did a bunch of research on this and bought a glass repair kit. Looks like they can technically fix a crack up to 14 inches. Most places just want to sell ya a new windshield. I figure I have a great window to learn on now. I can’t make it worse.

In my experience with replaced windshields, the Tech probably took more time to wash and clean the new windshield after installing it.

Apparently, the gorilla glass windshields already exist as the tech asked me if I had a gorilla logo in the bottom right corner. I don't know if they are any more resistant to cracking however...

Maybe multiple layers can be used like on endurance race cars and then you just peel them off when a layer has become too scratched?

The annoying thing is that we all end up paying for this through increased premiums. If JL windshield cracks are this insane, I'm not gonna replace it every time. I'll delay.

I'm on windshield #4 on my 2017 JK . I have $0 deductible on my comprehensive. My insurance company doesn't raise premiums on comprehensive claims
