Just had a rock destroy my second windshield in 3200 miles. I'm going to need to change windshields more often than the oil.

I've had several wranglers before and none were as bad as this. Bad luck? There are already 12 pages of comments on a car that you essentially couldn't get until 6 months ago.
It's a Colorado thing. My Jeeps over the years have encountered more rocks to the face in Colorado than any other state. As I mentioned earlier in this thread, I used to replace JK windshields almost every single year. The fact that our main Interstates are only two lanes from end to end and jam-packed with idiots who cannot drive (and that includes truck drivers) just makes windshield chips and cracks a more frequent likelihood.

Hell, I got a tiny chip driving my JL home from the dealership after I bought it, but luckily it's near the top and it hasn't grown. However, I've already got a couple new ones over the summer and one is slowly starting to grow. I expect to be replacing mine before the end of the year.

And another member. 4 months and 4000 miles . Haven't even had it off road yet. Heard a slight bing off the windshield on the freeway today and ended up with a cracked windshield. First cracked windshield in almost 50 years behind the wheel. Unless you count the BB shot to the windshield of my prior JK.

So the update is, dealer wanted $1200.00 plus $150. Install rate and come to find out they drive it down the street to a windshield repair shop and send it out to be done. That is for the 'acoustic" windshield. Went to the shop that the dealer used on my own and they quoted me $85. to fix the crack in the original windshield. They also quoted me about a $300. repair to replace the window with some aftermarket brand . I asked about the acoustic thing . Was told it is a layering of the glass to add sound dampening to it and it is available on all the replacement glass, OEM or aftermarket. Also said the glass used in the acoustic glass is thinner due to the layering. Also called a couple of independent shops and most said the glass was back ordered. No one including the dealer knew anything about "gorilla glass". Independent shop said to not waist your money on any type of film or "protective" wrap on the windshield as it is not going to stop a crack or chip from a stone or rock.

My California insurance does not offer separate glass protection as some States do so it falls on my comp coverage which is $500. deductible ( changed that to $250.0 immediately. Looks like i will be making claims on my policy in the future assuming I drive this vehicle as much as I was hoping. Concerned now for my wife and grand-kids in the car of the windshield breaks .

Hopefully someone will take the company to task as i think they have a situation here with so many windshields going from such a little impact. Unfortunately it may mean someone has to get hurt as a result before they are forced to fix the situation if at all.

Repair looks good for the $85.00 and will probable end up doing that until I can no longer repair the windshield...

I'm in. Less than 3,000 miles. Didn't even hear a rock. Just noticed a crack on my way in to work (see pic below). When I went out after work, it was about 2/3 of the way across.

I just put a new windshield in my wife's pilot but we had reschedule a few times due to weather and Everytime we would reschedule I would get a email saying they would give me a discount to reschedule. So maybe some else can use it. This coupon is better than the AAA discount.

@wanderer

I posted the Gorilla Glass thing and then found out the Gorilla Glass offering for the JL was not available yet. And no, I have no idea on pricing.

I'm a member too. Thankfully the trucking company had it replaced.

Older vehicles had thicker glass. Every car company wants to save weight so they are using thinner and lighter glass like acoustic glass. Every JL has acoustic glass. I wonder if it is the thinner layers of glass that is the real issue? I know the Wrangler has a flat windshield which does not help but it seems like the old TJ windshields were more durable even though the rake was even straighter? The protective film cost as much as a new windshield and scratches if any dirt is on the windshield when the wipers are used. I used to feel extra glass protection insurance was a waste of money but may want to rethink that with a JL? I think Zurich had plans for $300?

I thought the Gorilla Glass windshield was an April Fools post. Is this really going to be an available option? Is it a whole new windshield, or a "screen protector" type of thing?

A cop pulled out from the median on I-10 to chase a speeder and - bam - he threw up a rock and put a nice star on my windshield.
Luckily Arizona has separate glass coverage and I always get the zero deductible plan. So we'll see what the insurance company has to say.
