Corrosion issue, past 5 year mark

Thought I was going to dodge the bullit but corrosion just showed up in several places in the last month. 2018 JLUR and 6 months beyond warranty. I asked the dealer and I got a solid no.
All but 1 place is doors. Can aluminum spots be blended and clear coated like steel or does it require a complete strip and repaint?

I wonder what the long term fate for these vehicles will be 10-20 years from now? My guess is the aftermarket will step up with replacement panels that are DIY friendly. In 2050 will every JL still on the road have aftermarket cloth doors fiberglass hoods etc?

Yeah that totally makes sense given your situation. People were asking me why I don’t just sell it or trade it in. I’m like no one will buy this privately with all the obvious corrosion . It’s still worth a lot because I only have 59K miles on it. If I traded it into a dealership and bought another one, the car payment would be astronomical at todays rates and I really enjoy not having a car payment.

I have 101k on it, but I could see things being different with 59k

The dealer doesn’t decide. Call jeep cares and make a case. Take it to a dealer with a body shop and have them evaluate, get a quote and send it to jeep cares under the case you opened. Jeep cares then will determine.

You need to find a Jeep dealer that deals with corrosion warranties. Not all of them do. My local place directed me to a Jeep dealer that could assess the corrosion and then submit a claim to Stellantis. Had to drive 2.5 hours to the dealership to get it looked at but it was soooo worth it. They can put and took pictures and marked up the Jeep with a pen to indicate the body part. The lady told me this was required by Stellantis and that she would submit everything to Stellantis. She said Stellantis uses some automated process that determines the amount Stellantis will pay. I was 14 months over my warranty when I did this just a couple of weeks ago. She asked me if I did regular oil changes and who performed them. I said some I did myself and some were while I was living in England. I guess that factors into the reimbursement . Anyways, within a few hours of visiting the body shop at this Jeep dealer, I found out Stellantis would pay for 70% of the repairs.

Yes, strip, prepare and paint.

If you strip, prep and repaint the current parts, the issue WILL come back shortly. The current guidance body shops are following is to replace all parts that show corrosion. Then they properly prep and paint.

I found corrosion at 50k miles and 93 days past the 5 year warranty (it had been at the dealer for a new engine 78 of those days). Dealer sent me to their body shop, a Chevy dealer. Both dealers said they were unaware of any corrosion issues on the Wrangler, blamed it on defective paint, and said it was out of warranty. I contacted Jeep Cares and they sent me back to the dealer saying dealers had to handle all warranty claims. It's been bouncing around the service dept for over 2 months now. I provided the service advisor with copy of the corrosion TSB. If I don't get a resolution by the first of the year I'm going back to Jeep Cares.

I'm in MA/NH with a 3/19 buy and just noticed this on one hinge. I'll find a dealer to look at the issue and try to get it covered. Hoping I can act quickly to change the hinges and avoid it showing up on other panels. <60k miles and had planned to keep it a long time.

Changing the hinges will only fix the hinges. The problem is panel prep at the factory. The doors get painted with the hinges already attached so there is no paint or primer under the hinges. Moisture gets in there and its off to the races.
If you get corrosion anywhere else away from the hinges (door/hood edges wundshield frame), repairing it is only a temp fix as it's coming from corrosion in the hem flange. The only long term fix is to replace the panel with one that has been properly prepped before painting

This sounds about right. But in our case was told FCA District Service Manager determines. Jeep Cares is just a vehicle owner to Jeep dealer conduit.

The multiple reports of FCA doing corrosion repairs after the 5 year warranty expires is a very positive sign - and kinda matches right up to what my dealer body shop manager implied to me.

Our 2018 had 3 warranty claims done for this. Last completed after the 5 year warranty expired because of replacement panel production availability delays. Thankfully everything is still perfect and vehicle looks just like brand new.

Have posted this a couple times in other threads - but was told by the dealer body shop manager that if any future corrosion occurred - to bring it right back to him. They would then contact FCA and ask that the corrosion be corrected under the FCA Goodwill policy. It would require District Service Manager approval. But he seemed quite confident something could be done. Hmm? What does he know? This I found interesting. But is now starting to match up. Maybe Goodwill Repairs have been done for other FCA models he was aware of.

So based on posts in this thread - FCA has actually paid or offered to pay - 50% 70% and 100% or the corrosion repair costs. Is much better than nothing. All the forum naysayers posting speculation BS about corrosion repairs not falling under the FCA corrosion warranty - have been proven to be 100% buffoons and idiots. Haha!

Yeah our little beast is very low mileage only driven in winter - so plan is to keep and drive right into the ground. Chk. Nice.

I made a call to see what the steps were and the gentleman on the phone said that depending on how much corrosion there is, could take up to 4-6 WEEKS to get my vehicle back. I don't have a second vehicle right now and can't be without a vehicle for that long. Just curious if anyone has been able to get a loaner and what people's wait times have been like.

Going through that process now. Jeep Cares is who you need to contact regarding getting a rental covered. You will have to pay up front for the rental and once you are done with the rental your turn the receipt into Jeep Cares for “their review” and they will determine how much of the rental cost they will cover.

Huge caveat- I was told they will only cover the cost if the rental is a Stellantis/FCA brand vehicle.

also- you have to call Jeep Cares before or on the first day you get your rental. I made the mistake of calling them 6 days into having the rental and they are telling me they can’t reimburse me for those days and can only consider reimbursement starting the day I contacted them to start my reimbursement claim.
