Jim, i would probably do what others have also suggested for peace of mind and have the used coolant analyzed. I would also suggest the old coolant was flushed and refilled at the dealership, again for peace of mind of having it done completely and properly. (My mechanic said they do not offer this service anymore as it requires proprietary equipment/procedures to suck out all the old coolant and flush. A pressure test is also recommended, in order to make sure you have no leaks. Best of luck and keep us informed.

Billy, it was in the shop this week for a leak test for the main loops and nothing was shown leaking. None of the hoses or anything. They didn’t do anything though with the engine or radiator or anything like that they said drive 500 miles see if the level changes and then they would go from there. So at this time, I know there’s no leak in the reservoirs that hold the coolant or any of the hoses but they didn’t pull any spark plugs or do anything else yet just a leak test. So should I order that test kit from Amazon? I mean, I actually already did but am I gonna use it or just make an appointment at the dealership and go from there?

do the test, more ammunition at dealer. I like the way you are documenting the fluid level with the same picture. I would continue that, and not add fluid until the 500 mile mark, or if it got really low.

i told them that at the service this week. . . no one listened to me.
You can tell them whatever you like, but what you have do is pay them to do it.

They’re right though, it’s fully unnecessary. Just drive normally, check your coolant in 2 weeks, then monthly.

He doesn’t need any ā€œammunitionā€, he’s entirely out of warranty. It’s all customer pay. There is no need for any further action at this time.

I think he has an extended 3rd party warranty. See post #27.

They will not cover any further testing. They are very unlikely to assist in anything in this case whatsoever.

I’m not adding anything.

I have an extended warranty but I’m on the hook for all diagnosis till they find something. Then it’s 100 bucks only bit what if they rip apart the whole engine and find no bad head. Then I’m stuck and screwed.

How exspensive

I have a zurich extended warrenty till 125k miles. they cover head gaskets i was told. but yes i know i'm on the hook for the diagnostics. i told them I would pay for other testing. I just didnt' want to get into ripping a motor apart if it was not warrented.

they did the leak test. it was $180.00 no leaks. I wanted to pay for further testing to try and see what else it could be.

they said drive it for 500 and go from there, but the level did go down so slightly which now has me worried. i'm not worrying about the color cause who knows on that. old coolant in there was something a different color. i think that isn't apples to apples maybe. the level in AM is though.

so what kinda out of pocket cost can I be looking at for more testing like cylinder tests and pressure tests along with leak tests to see if the radiator is bubbling or anyhting else that should be done before ripping into this thing. if some of the other tests come up pushing towards a blown head then I'll pay cause I will get that money back.

this sucks. . . lol

Trust me. They’ll say the head gasket failure was due to prolonged operation while overheating caused by a non-covered component leaking slowly over time. I’ve been there. Your head gasket isn’t leaking, you’d know by now.

@JimJim , Zurich has a pretty good reputation, they primarily sell through dealerships, so your dealer should be savvy enough to know how to get a potentially covered claim through successfully. That obviously is not the experience of some forum members, but it has been mine on two separate occasions. Brakes and transmission, not engine though. If it were my Jeep, I would do the at home coolant test, and continue to monitor the coolant level over the next 500 miles, as your dealer recommended. I would keep a close eye on the coolant temp while driving, and I would look at when was the last coolant replacement. I didn't remember seeing anything about that in the thread. IMO, . If you have any chance of a warranty claim, it’s going to be sooner rather than later.

coolant was never changed. i'm original owner. no one even ever mentioned for me to change it. i called zurich. they said with proper documentation heads are covered. she mentioned about cracked blocks and such.

i'm going to do home test when it comes tomorrow. hopefully its easy enough for me to do.
i'll take a level pic again in morning. by the end of monday i'll be at 500 miles. i drive for my job and i also have a daughter who trains after school daily for tennis so i drive even more.

i'll give them a call on monday once i hit 500 miles and go from there. i keep the coolant guage up at all times now or on the radio screen though the app. it hit 212 today while accelerating up hill then went right back down. ingeneral past 2 days driving it has been at 188-197 with a quick spike to 201-208 when accelerating or idle then moving again but it always goes back down once i get start to move and gears are shifting as much. nothing to really be alrmed at like on monday when it all started.

Those temperatures are great, you’re doing everything possible. At 500 miles and no loss, is promising. I would definitely look at having : brake fluid, transmission fluid, differential fluids, and coolant changed. A lot of that you can do yourself, but at 100k, it’s overdue. The dealership will be ridiculous for those, so it might be time to find a nice Jeep shop, or pick up the wrench yourself 😊

I’ll be at 500 miles by end of Monday or possibly tomorrow if the kid has me running her around to hit with a few friends. lol

brake fluid was done actually 1.5k ago when I had front pads and rotors done. Rears were good.

So my plan at 100k was:

spark plugs
Serpentine belt
Coolant replacement
Front and rear differentials
Transmission fluid and filter

That’s sounds like a really good plan. I would first make sure sure that you are comfortable that the engine is good and all those issues are solved before investing more into the maintenance 😊
