I'm probably one of the few people around here who's actually folded down their window before. :movember:
Awesome. I'd like to try it at least once some time in the future. When you took it down, how/where did you drive? What max speed did you get up to? Curious, as during warmer weather bugs in my teeth or rocks from the gravel trucks coming out of all the local limestone quarries would be a definite concern here in San Antonio/Texas. ?

I drove it literally around the block in my neighborhood. 25 mph max on a windy day even with glasses is unbearable. Personally I wouldn't ever drive around the roads or off-roading with it down unless I had a motorcycle helmet and some sort of thick leathers on to stop any rocks from pelting my chest or neck or face.

Actually took my window down because I was trying to figure out if I had enough space to drill a couple holes on either side to match what the JKs have so that I could install a JK tubular window rod thingy to put lights on.

Strangely enough no one makes any tubular window rod thing used to put lights on for the JL's. In my opinion, they are all these ugly flat things and awkward shaped weird looking things. I mean if I cared about aerodynamics, I wouldn't have bought a Wrangler. Give me some goddamn tubular window mods!!?

I should note that there is enough space in there to put some decent size screws. Though the thickness of the metal on the window frame is enough that I don't think you would safely be able to get a nutsert into it and grip safely. It would almost be better to just put some threads on the metal window frame itself. There's definitely enough metal there that it would bite no problem. ??

After reading your post, I checked mine. Both outside bolts were loose. Thanks for the heads up!

40 Torx. On both sides for outer bolts.
Just checked mine and same thing two outside loose, the inside ones were tight.

I just went back and put Permatex Threadlocker Blue Gel on my windshield bolts and torqued them to the proper torque specs.

168 inch pounds or
18.98 newton meters or
14 foot pounds.

This torque spec snugs them up very tight and they should not loosen up.

OP here: A reminder, I started getting a vibration from the front (of the cabin) of my Jeep and I remembered these fours bolts. Sure enough, the two on the right-side were very loose. Haven't test driven it, but I'm sure it was the problem - just like last time. The Torx wrench in your Jeep tool kit fits them. My previous tightening lasted eleven months.

Had not looked at mine anytime recently, but started monitoring and sure enough, in my 2018 I was getting a rattle. Turns out the outer bolts had backed out again (I really do need to apply Loctite). After tightening all is good to go again. Will have to keep up with it in both our 2018 and 2024.

So, that is where that rattle is coming from. Thanks for the heads up!

Very possible, as this has been the second time for me. As I said, I really need to apply Loctite. Have not done it yet, but need to do it...

The bolts on the left side of the windshield have been loose multiple times, the bolt near the driver door was extremely loose. I put a drop of blue loctite on each one and they have not loosened up in over 2 years. You don’t need much loctite to do the job.

There are four recessed T40 bolts, two on either side of the upper windshield (inside the cabin). They tend to work loose and cause mysterious rattles. The wrench in the green canvas Jeep tool kit will fit. Take a moment and tighten yours.
stuff like this freaks me out. if little things like that is loose then what about my engine mounts and so on?

Checked my windshield bolts(4) again today. Two were a tad loose. Last time checked and the bolts re-tightened was in May 2025, 7,500 miles ago.

Do check your 4 windshield bolts!

I have developed a rattle that I can't find. Sounds like it's coming from the dash but I am going to check these. Thanks!
