It's that time of year. It's been cold rain and drizzle here for nearly a week. I took the Jeep out today and my wiper blades fell apart while I was driving. The rubber wiping edge was peeling away and flopping around. I only have 18k miles on it and it's kept in a barn. We've only had like 15" of rain in the past year, so they rarely get used unless I use the washer spray. Maybe they just dry rotted.

Anyway, easiest thing to do was to stop at an O' Reilly's and pick up a set. I'm sure I could have bought them for much less online, but I needed them right away. I got Trico Titan blades. I've been very happy with them on my F150, so I figured I'd try them on the Jeep. I/m surprised how crappy the OEM ones were.

So, think ahead and save some money. Don't be like me and let them fail at the worst time.

My Jeep has only 14,000 miles and is on its fourth set of wipers already. They get used a lot here in the Pacific Northwest.

I get my wipers and windshield fluid across the border in Canada. For some reason, you can get them cheaper up there. Even after paying 11% in sales tax.

The windshield/wiper section at Canadian Tire is the size of a Trader Joe’s. And their windshield fluids are rated for much lower temps.

BTW, my Fiat 124 Spider has 18,000 miles and is still on its original set of wipers. Granted, the Fiat doesn’t usually get driven in foul weather. But the quality of the wipers that came with the Mazda-build Fiat appears to be much better than those that came on the Jeep.

I rub a little of the Turtlewax Ceramic Spray Coating on them and they glide like butter. (I also use the TW on the Black Trim which helps with the sun, rain and elements).

I use that Turtle Wax Ceramic detail spray. It's the best I've ever used. I also use it on all the glass. Works great. Very impressed. I was using Griot's for years before I stumbled on the new TW.

International windshield wiper and washer fluid trafficking. A little known, lucrative enterprise.

I'll periodically wipe the rubber blades with isopropyl alcohol. This tends to refresh them a bit, particularly if a bit of time has passed since last doing so.

I've a set of Duralast winter wiper blades, from Auto Zone, that will be installed as soon as the crappy winter precipitation begins in earnest. If I'm honest, they work better for what they are than the much-more costly Bosch Envision wipers that are on the vehicle right now.

Like a few other owners, I was distinctly unimpressed with the abbreviated service life of the factory wipers.

Not often you hear something is cheaper or better in Canada :)
