Perfect timing on this post, as the wife and I just noticed a rattle coming from the top somewhere. I planned to check this weekend anyways so this will be the first go to. I know my 2 10" thumpers in the trunk dont help matters much, cuz they rattled the bolts out of my moon roof on the last whip.

There are four recessed T40 bolts, two on either side of the upper windshield (inside the cabin). They tend to work loose and cause mysterious rattles. The wrench in the green canvas Jeep tool kit will fit. Take a moment and tighten yours.
You have solved my 3 year long rattle. I had a very annoying, and loud rattle, that would only occur while off road and on the hardest bumps. I couldn't really pinpoint it cause I would be driving. Sure enough, passenger top right bolt was super loose. Tightened it and snugged the other 3, problem solved!

Appreciate the post.

Now I just have to figure out how to quiet my door seals as i drive. Those have gotten a bit noisy over the past couple years,

Think ill try the ceramic paste "wax" on the body where door seals touch first. Some have had luck with that.

The only other annoying rattle I have is the drivers freedom top clamp/latch or whatever it's called above the visor. It rattles when closed and the doesn't seem to be any adjustment. The top isn't the issue, it's the handle part that once latched it has some play. Ill have to make a short video to explain it better, maybe others have same thing.

Yeah I know it's a jeep and I don't expect silence, but it's a bit annoying nevertheless! I can live with it though

In regard to the latches for the Freedom Panels, you can adjust them a bit and the adjustment does lets say firm up the latch handle a bit.

Go to the latch and look for a small circular felt pad. Gently peel the felt pad off and place the felt pad where he sticky backside of the felt pad will remain clean.

Now, with a Torx bit you can loosen slightly and move the latch catch and then re-tighten. The adjustment is minimal that you can do, but the adjustment often helps. When done adjusting, place the circular felt pad back in place.

Appreciate the suggestion, but here is the rattle and it's not related to the tension on the panel to body. It's the latch itself. I'm open to suggestions!

Hmmmm... perhaps if you took a small rectangular piece of thick felt or a rectangular piece of thin rubber you could adhere that piece on to the inner side of the handle real close to the pivot point... Now, when the handle closes it would lay on the rectangular piece and be lifted a tad .... and the piece putting a bit of pressure on the handle so it does not/cannot rattle. Yes, jury rig but....

Felt pad like this...

Now I just have to figure out how to quiet my door seals as i drive. Those have gotten a bit noisy over the past couple years,
The other day, I popped of the small plastic wedge shaped trim pieces at the bottom front corner of the front door windows. There are holes in the door under there where quite a bit of wind noise comes in.

I used commercial grade duct tape to cover all of the holes, even the ones used to remount the trim pieces, then I just cut a slot in the tape covering the hole for remounting. I used 3M automotive trim mounting tape to further hold the piece to the door when remounting.

The reduction in wind noise was very significant. My Jeep is now quieter than it's ever been. One thing I have noticed though is that it takes a little more slam to fully close the door, as there is an increase in air pressure.

Tired again
I lower my windshield a couple times a year to clean the inside of the glass. (I don't any have cowl-mounted accessories, and I'm old, so my body doesn't bend like it used to. ?)

Just a small drop of Blue Loctite should keep them from loosening, but since I take them out regularly, I just torque them to the spec'd 14 Ft-Lbs.

If you don't plan on taking them out, maybe do both?

Thanks for the tip. I had 1 outer bolt loose. I hope this fixes the mystery squeak that I have occasionally. I thought it was a bad shock absorber. I’ve attached 2 photos…. Please verify these are the correct bolts.

@Roadrunner71

Those are the correct bolts.

There are 4 in windshield bolts in total .. you showed the 2 end bolts / L & R side in your pics. There are 2 other bolts in the middle.

While you have the Torx 40 tool in hand, tighten the 3 left and right screws of the 2 mirrors a little more because they are not too tight.

I had the same noise, I maneuvered vigorously (not too much ...) several times and the noise disappeared

Confirmed on my 2018 the passenger side 2 bolts were loose - the one closest to the door was probabbly hanging on by a thread as it took alot of full turns to get snug. This could possibly have been exacerbated from the two 10" subs adding more vibration. Driver side no issues.
