Interested in your experience not your opinion. Please stay on subject. When traveling in areas where chains are required do you chain two or four wheels? How did your decision affect your experience?

Always drive axle is the minimum for chains or cables. Whether RWD or FWD vehicles. Jeep JL owners manual recommends rear axle on skinny tires. But if conditions warrant put on all 4 for maximum steering control and best traction. Always tie off loose chain link ends with wire and use compression bungy cords. Do not flex or drive so fast that chains hit any body part or any suspension component when spinning.

Best is to drive slow and drive smart - so do not overdrive limits of the chains and your winter driving ability. A broken chain flinging at very high wheel speeds is really not the best for any Jeep. Rubicon F+R locked with chains on ice is quite the gripping machine.

Stay safe as winter driving can be very cold and can be very harsh especially at night.

It depends on the situation, I have chained just the rear, and I have chained all four.

If just the rear is all you need, then just those, if you’re only chaining two, only chain the rears, if it’s slick enough that you’re chaining, and chain only the front, when you try to stop, you are likely to have the rear end come around on you, and lose control.

I have chained all four (on my old 80’ F250) in Deep snow, snow wheeling, and I have chained all four on the Wrangler, on glare Ice, in town, ( with decent hills involved) . I went with what the situation dictated in each case, there is no one size fits all answer.

I have even chained the steer axle on a tractor trailer, even though it wasn’t powered, while in freezing rain, because on the ice, I couldn’t get enough steering traction to overcome the crown of the road, and get back into the traffic lane, after stopping to chain up, it just kept pushing down the shoulder of the highway, and that wasn’t going to be an option for much longer

Which state is irrelevant to my post. If the DOT says chain up you chain up or turn around. I'm just looking for experience from the forum members.

On fresh snow that hasn't been plowed or traveled on I chain the rear. If it's glare ice, a side sloped logging road, or black ice I'll chain the front and back.
I usually go through a set of chains every winter and repair or replace them
