If you live in an area where having a car seat stolen is an issue, it's probably best to just move.

Never heard of a car seat being stolen. They're a pain to put on and not easy to remove unless you have a child and are familiar with them.
I don't. I'm not generally concerned at all around my home. I am not concerned at work as I worked inside a fenced/secure compound. It's more going out and about in the St. Louis area which is not always the most forgiving. Things like Cardinals or Blues games or other events downtown.

This topic got a lot more engagement than I expected! Thank you to everyone for the input. I decided that using the bike lock when the car seat is not in use is the simplest way to go for general peace of mind.

LMFAO, that was my first sarcastic response too...its just like using them for teen birth control; give them a crying baby for 30 minutes. Kids also usually like to ooze something sticky like maple syrup down there that should deter unclipping, but bad for bugs and bears...

On the helpful side the latch points are ~1" D rings with ~1/2" clip from the carseat there is plenty of space for a steel cable to run through and up through the openings in the back that the seatbelt would normally go through. Wouldnt cause interference if clipped into the loose space not used by carseat clips.

My 2c: The difficulty in installing and removing carseats is most likely beyond most criminal masterminds, and damaging the seat by cutting the back plastic or the straps makes them inoperable. IF someone needs a carseat that bad I am happy that parent is looking out for that kid, Ill get a new one.
I was just going to say anyone willing to embark on unlatching and unstrapping a carseat to steal it put in a LOT of work. They are difficult, and there is a reason most parents just buy a second set of seats, or designate one vehicle the "kid transport". Any thief who just rolls up on a jeep thinking they can easily snatch the seat and go is in for about a 10 minute job! :whew:

Search “Lockstraps”. About $25 at most retailers. Won’t affect function of the car seat in any way, easy to unlock, and should be a piece of cake for emergency personnel to defeat should the need arise.

It's something unique on the forum as opposed to "help me pick a bumper" or "will 35s fit on my stock, angry grilled Sport S?". Lol.

Taking a topless Jeep to a large event like pro sports games is ballsy for sure.

I'm just trying to picture someone running away with one of our car seats in hand. They are like 35lbs+ and covered in anything my kid has eaten in the last year. There would literally be bread crumbs leading me to their hideout.

This is not something I've heard of, but I also don't own "The Club" to keep my Jeep from being stolen, I don't have one of those faraday wallets, and I don't use my thumb to cover my license plate when I post cars for sale. I guess you could say I live life on the edge.

With that sort of thought process, it's really going to twist your brain when you realize how easy it is to pop the entire dash out of a JL.

Seriously, don't worry about it. By the time someone gets to stealing your seats they've stolen pretty much everything else. The best solution is good insurance.

I wouldn't even hesitate to do that. I imagine geography may have something to do with that. In saying that, more times than I care to admit, my front door is rarely locked.

*This isn't a political or a "Canada is better" statement, it's just a fact for me. I guarantee you some dude from Toronto or Montreal doesn't have the same ideas as myself.

Our front door at home remains unlocked from the first time we go out in the morning until we go to sleep, but being at a pro sports even is a whole different ball game (no pun intended). These events are in cities which are a lot less safe to begin with and then you add a lot of drunk people which we all know are more prone to doing stupid things that they wouldn't do when sober.

Car seats are expensive and easy to resell based on what I see along LA streets. I locked mine by using a cable and padlock. The cable ran from the handle in front of ours to the rear seat metal brackets. One note: I saw an early comment, I was a paramedic also in LA. We were not allowed to ever take a kid's car seat with us. It may have sustained damage in the crash and there was no way to be sure by looking so we had to find another way, usually a half-backboard.

Lol, love the pun. And point taken.

LA is in its own category of crime, though.

2) There's very little aftermarket for carseats for safety reasons, so little reason for anyone to steal them thinking they can make easy money.

Good luck, have fun!
This guy said it. Have you ever tried to get rid of a used child seat? No one wants them at any price. You can't even give them away. Nobody's going to steal it - there's just no market. Tweakers want stuff they can unload for ready cash.
