Don't take the doors off, roll up the windows and lock the Jeep when you leave it.

Seriously, this is why you pay insurance. IF someone wants them bad enough, they'll get them. Same as the rest of the Jeep.

Have you ever tried to get rid of a used child seat?
No one wants them at any price.
You can't even give them away.
Living in PA Dutch country as we do, we've made a mint over the years from the Mennonite ladies who show up first thing in the morning at our neighborhood's annual Mother's Day weekend yard sales. Those women are nonpareil when it comes to sniffing out a bargain, and giving a second or a third (or a fifth) life to anything that isn't broken, car seats included. If you have anything kid-related to sell, especially clothing, it's better that you just stay out of their way, lol.

So, there is a geographical component, or at least a cultural one, in such matters.

Don't car seats have expiration dates?

Yes and no. They can be used indefinitely, but the manufacturers use the lever of "innovation" as cover for what we might call planned obsolescence. We've known several families that have shifted seats between siblings as they grow, to no ill effect. It's not as bad as the pearl-clutching ad copy would suggest.

Honestly I don’t think you need to worry about this as much, unless you’re like in a ghetto ass neighborhood lol ? when I first got my 2016 I was always concerned when traveling with the top off, doors etc not sure of the places I was going to park at was secure, I also had an expensive car seat in it along with other items, but nothing was ever stolen, I always made sure to park near security camera areas which are basically everywhere now!

Paramedic here. DO NOT chain it in. We frequently transport kids IN THEIR CAR SEATS after an accident as it provides a great deal of immobilization already. A chain would add to the time to get the kid out, especially if we cant see the chain. It takes a good deal of work just to cut the belts and latching belts anyway. I think you are looking for a solution where a problem doesn't really exist.
Yep, absolutely correct. Been FF/Paramedic for almost 30 years.

For what it is worth. I wouldn't worry about the seat being stolen. Most people will not buy a used seat, as there usually is no way of knowing if it has been in an accident. So, not much of a market.

Plus, those that would stoop that low, usually don't put their kids in a car seat, unfortunately. Seen way too much of that & I don't like to remember it either.

As mentioned they are difficult to put in correctly, thus somewhat difficult to get out correctly. Plus, as mentioned, they can be riddled with lots of nastiness, which also affects the resale. Lastly, I too have never heard of a child's car seat being stolen, even in a crime ridden area.

If you must, then listen to your wife & go with something temporary that you can put on when leaving & take off when the child is in it. But, PLEASE don't use anything that would compromise the installation (safety).

Hope this helped some.

Stopped by because I will be putting in a car seat for my granddaughter as soon as my Gladiator arrives.
Learned something new in my old age: Crotchfruit.

...and I'm out a $300 car seat.
Holy crap I didn't realize how expensive car seats are now?! My kids are in college now and I haven't walked into a Babies R Us in probably 15 years! Pretty sure they are more advanced than what we used, but I saw a couple for $500!

Don't car seats have expiration dates?
Yes, generally 10 years. The popularity of convertible car seats has definitely reduced some of the secondary market. A parent used to have to buy an infant seat, a toddler seat, and then a booster. Now you can find so many that have portions of that built into one. We had an infant seat that was different but have now been using the same seats since she stopped using the little infant seat and she's 4 now. She will use these seats until she starts sitting on the actual seats of the car.

Ya, they aren't cheap at all. It's basically like getting your bumper or tube doors getting stolen from a financial perspective. It's not the end of the world as we can just buy a new one but I'd rather not be worrying about having to drop $300-$400 on a new car seat just because it got pinched.

Probably in part because they don't exist anymore :)

I was in the fine city of Greeley CO last Saturday. Had the hard top off. Had my $320 ASR recovery kit in the back along with my $250 Viair compressor. I parked at the house that someone was murdered in front of about 6months ago. I was a little concerned that someone would jack my stuff. Was still in there. This post is absolutely no help to you but I'm thankful no scumbags stole my equipment.
