It’s either me or ? but I am confused about the cabin air filter for a 2021 3.0 Rubicon Unlimited.

I found part number 68364653AA on this forum as being the cabin air filter part number. Went to change it out and found out there are two of them. Paid $22 for one. $44 to replace the cabin air filter seems way too much.

I found a video on this forum from Northridge about changing the cabin filter and got the part number 68301863 off the video. It is a one piece filter, however it isn’t listed on the Northridge website. I did find it on Amazon and also a WIX 10371 part number, looks like it might fit, but I don’t always trust Amazon. There was nothing there about restrictions for non Diesel engines only. There was a comment that someone used this in a JLUD.

I looked on allmoparparts.com and it said that the 68301863 doesn’t fit my Jeep with the 3.0. it shows the 68364653 but it’s sold in qtys of 1 and doesn’t state that I need two.

is there a different cabin air filter based on engine type?

i couldn’t find a part number in the manual so any help anyone can provide I would greatly appreciate. Something a simple as replacing a cabin air filter shouldn’t be this hard or expensive.

Thanks.

I see a Pureflow filter that states it fits a 2022 3.0 and it’s the one piece.

I sure don’t understand why engine type affects the cabin air filter. I can’t imagine that the space and design for the cabin filter was designed to be different for one engine type but maybe it is. Seems like an expensive way to design.

Has anyone tried the one piece filter to see if it fits? Some info says it will fit a diesel. They are more readily available and much cheaper. I dont have a problem with the warranty if I use the wrong cabin filter. It’s just a cabin filter. But if it doesn’t fit, I also don’t want a bunch of dust inside.

It takes five minutes to change. It might be easier to just take yours out and measure it.
I changed mine a couple of months ago. It was one piece. I vaguely remember having to squeeze it a bit to get it in. That may be why there’s two small filters available for later models. On the other hand, I change cabin filters often at work. I may be thinking of a different vehicle.

There’s certainly some confusion going on with this part. I went to the dealer this week and they told me it was out of stock, and Jeep was doing a revision to the part. I got one number from the dealer, a different number from Mopar parts online, and yet a third number off the factory filter when I pulled it out.

I ended up buying a NAPA gold filter 230371. Which fit and has the same dimensions as the one piece filter from the factory.

The parts fitment info from Mopar’s website stated the one part number fit all engine options. Edit: except the 3.0 is not listed. Sorry for adding to the confusion.

Thanks! My local NAPA looks like they have it so I will pick it up tomorrow. The part number on their website has the WP10371 part number which is the WIX number I found. Too many part numbers and too confusing. The dimensions are pretty close.

I also found one at Oriellys but it my local store didn’t have any.

I looked on allmoparparts.com at their diagram for the 68364653AA (small, qty 2 filter) and it shows in the diagram the larger one piece filter. So at least I’m not the only one confused.

The jl 2.0t has two cabin filters...they sit side by side.
I literally just replaced filter in my 2020 JL Unlimited Sport 2.0T (not Rubicon) with a single piece Wix WP10371 two days ago so the above is not always true.

On Quadratec there is a video showing the replacement of the Mopar filter and replacing the filter with a K&N. The Mopar is one piece and the K&N is two piece.

I do not believe there is a definitive answer on whether the cabin filter is one piece or two piece. I think that there are different replacement options. Some manufacturers aka the original Mopar use a single piece filter. The Wix WP10371 is a single piece just like the original Mopar. These one piece filters are flexible and you squish them a bit in order to do the install. Some manufacturers use a two piece where you fit one piece in and slide it over and then put in the second piece.

Most of my research was focused on 2020 JLU with 2.0T. I think filter options are the same for other ** gas engines** and years but if something changed after the 2020 model such that the filter is different maybe someone with a newer model can add some detail. ** The cabin air filter is different on the diesel engine **

PS not sure about the 4xe

My 2020 Willys has a single. I was wondering if the upper end models have a DUAL ZONE heating system, Maybe this is why they have 2 cabin air filters?

Just a thought.

My 21 Rubicon had dual zone heating and had a one piece filter from the factory. I replaced it with the Wix one piece.

The EcoDiesel 3.0 engine uses a different cabin filter for some reason. The correct part number is 68364653AA. You need two, and they are pricey.
Since they are basically the same as the air filters your home A/C uses, you can make your own for a lot less. Buy one of the "cut to fit" home A/C filters and you can make enough to last for months. I've been using homemade filters for quite a while with no issues, and most of my driving is in the desert so I need to change them often. The approximate dimensions of each filter is 7 5/8 x 4 3/4 x 1 inches.

I did find it on Amazon and also a WIX 10371 part number, looks like it might fit, but I don’t always trust Amazon.
I also ordered the 68364653AA Mopar cabin air filter ($18 + shipping) and was surprised when I got just 1/2 filter. Instead of ordering another 1/2, I used the WIX 10371 suggestion to search Amazon and ended up buying the GaeaAuto GA68301863AA version because it had the quickest delivery. It might not be the highest quality, but it fits perfectly and I got two full size filters for $20 (i.e. equivalent to 4 half-filters). I just had to squeeze a little more to get it into the slot.

The link: https://www.amazon.com/GaeaAuto-Compatible-2018-2022-Gladiator-68301863AA/dp/B09YY1HYK4

In the first image you can see the OEM filters on the left and the relative size of the new filter on the right. To match the size, the pleats are running 90, but I don't think the air cares.

In this image, the new filter is sitting directly over the two OEM filters, and it appears to be the same exact size combined. To the right is the "1/2" filter I ordered.

This is the new filter in the cabin filter slot. Looks like a perfect fit.
