Buying mine from out of state, first time doing so with a vehicle. Only thing I'm seeing that is odd is getting the plates for it. From what I understand they will give me a 15 day temp tag, then send a MSO to their county DMV to get title work that will then be sent to me in 3-4 weeks once they get it with another 30 day temp tag. Then I can go get registration/plates. Guess I'll see what that's all about.

We bought our Fusion from a dealer about an hour away. The only issue we've ever had is the local Ford dealer claimed they could not find the Ford extended warranty we bought when purchased. The dealer we bought it from said that was BS, we didn't feel like arguing so took it back there when it needed about $3k in steering work done. The local Ford dealer here is owned by a notorious d-bag though. Crappy thing is he also owns the local Jeep dealer so guess I'll see what they do with me. If he's a pain I'll just take it the next town over to another Jeep dealer that I know is pretty decent (except for not dealing anything under MSRP on an order).

Hello all,

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I am considering buying from a dealer about an hour from me as I may be able to get a discount on a JL Willys build. Question: Are there any cons from buying from a dealer over an hour away when it comes to warranty and the Jeep Wave program? Can I get my Jeep serviced at another jeep dealership and will my jeep warranty only be covered by that dealership I bought from, or will it be valid at any Jeep dealer provider? That’s my hesitation as I don’t want to have a dealership as a base over 1 hour away (that is far for where I live!). If I went to a more local dealer, I probably wouldn’t get a discount on the MSRP.
No reason why another dealer won't service your Jeep. If you were to move across the country would you expect to be SOL on warranty work?

Be careful with sales tax from some states. Of course, you will most likely end up paying sales tax to your own state but Indiana will charge you a boatload of sales tax regardless of where you live. Florida has some strange rules too.

I bought my jeep from a dealer 150m away for a better deal but regret it now that I want warranty service.

I tried 5 different dealer/service centers in the NY area and none would take my appointment. Even when I was able to make one via the jeep site, I'd get there and the service center would not honor it (englewood NJ).

Due to Covid19, they said they don't have enough staff to take appts when jeep not bought from them. I told them that was BS and they were wrong. The guy just shrugged and told me that's their current path and that all the other jeep dealers in the area doing the same thing. He said my call for an appt was transferred to corporates and that they shouldn't have made the appt for me. wtf....

I ended up just changing my own oil but have given up for a while on getting the warranty work done. Luckily all cosmetic for now. Spent hours trying to get a service apt - will try again in a few months. The jeep site to make appts has been a nightmare and never executes the final scheduling...

This may be a localized issue but its affected my ability to get my jeep serviced in the NYC area.

I never had any issues with service from other dealers. I even take my Chevy to the local GMC/Cadillac near my house and they honor the GM extended service plan purchased from a dealer an hour away. Purchased at a Chevy dealer.

Will be taking my Jeep to a different dealer as well for maintenance.
You are more fortunate than me.
I've had a different, worse, experience here in the NYC area. Local service centers won't take my appt b/c I didn't buy the jeep from their dealer...
very frustrating.

They might be able to get away with that because of all of the craziness going on but it's still worth a call to Jeep's customer service department. Under normal conditions I don't believe a dealer can refuse service.

As mentioned by other members in previous messages, shop around! Realistically an hour away from you is like nothing! I’m in NJ and purchased from Koons in the past, 2 other vehicles from PA which were like 2 1/2 hours away, go where you can get the best deal that is better for you! You can service your new car at any jeep dealer locations
Just wondering, how did you get there? Did a quick look and there are no flights available from here and the trains aren't coordinated very well with public transportation.

Rented a car for Koons which has an enterprise location right on their dealership, I did the same for one of the PA vehicles and took a train to the other

The car rental is what I'm thinking. Would love to take the train, just sit back and relax but that's not looking good.

i would check with @JeepCares on this. Seems to me that can’t refuse service simply because you didn’t buy from them.

I live in California. What’s crazy is that your out of state vehicle will have to be smog checked, even though it’s new, and even though it’s CA emission certified. It can take a few hundred miles of driving before the computers will allow a smog check to pass.
I took my 392 from the truck it arrived on to the smog place, with <20 miles on it and passed

Thanks. good idea. It's on my list as first step when I have time to try again.

Seeing this thread re-enraged me and I wanted to warn our members of my experience.

I did my entire purchase over the phone and e-mail, from Chicago to Duluth MN. Had the JLU shipped to my house and have had 0 issues getting service at several local dealers.
what was the cost to ship? who did you use?

I got a better price from Peterson in ID but living in MA seems like it wont make sense to spend the $$ to ship

I’m also doing the trek from Idaho to California. This will be my third such drive for a new Jeep, though the first with Kent @Peterson. He’s be awesome though, super responsive and great discount! Mine is built but not transported yet! my prior two returns have been driving and camping in the new Jeep in December/January. I’m looking forward to the trip being in a bit more sociable weather ?
I picked my XR up in Boise from Miller, and drove it. -via Vegas - home in December. Home is So. Cal. No issues whatsoever
