Thanks, my Sport S has always shown 4. I've thought that there probably is only 4 TPMS. I've rotated the tires several times, I'm thinking I'll let air out one at a time & when I find the one that doesn't show on dash mark inside the wheel. I'm thinking I'm monitoring 3 tires on the ground & one on the gate currently.Yes I installed all 5. It doesn't show the spare, but it never has since the day I bought it.
All five tires have sensors (as it comes from the factory). Only the ones on the ground show on the instrument panel. Unless there is something really weird going on, they all correspond to the display. Thanks, my Sport S has always shown 4. I've thought that there probably is only 4 TPMS. Yep. My understanding is that the radio transmitter in the valve stem only broadcasts when it detects that the wheel is rotating. Otherwise it would transmit the entire time you're parked and drain the battery prematurely. Since the spare does not spin, the transmitter never wakes up.All five tires have sensors (as it comes from the factory). Only the ones on the ground show on the instrument panel. That's cool but how does it know which 4 are on the ground? All five tires have sensors (as it comes from the factory). Only the ones on the ground show on the instrument panel. Unless there is something really weird going on, they all correspond to the display.
That makes sense. My motorcycle TPMS sense movement to save battery.Yep. My understanding is that the radio transmitter in the valve stem only broadcasts when it detects that the wheel is rotating. How does it know what location on the vehicle? On my motorcycle I assign a location.Yep. I just looked into this myself because I didn't know and I was curious. I *think*, on the Wrangler, there are radio receivers near three of the four corners of the vehicle. Each one of these can use the signal strength from the transmitters to determine which wheel is closest to that particular corner. Whichever transmitter is leftover is assigned to the corner without a receiver. How does it know what location on the vehicle? On my motorcycle I assign a location.
They are not OEM for $50 for 5.Those eBay sensors are not cheap knockoffs. They are OEM. I installed that same set on my Charger five years ago and they still work great. I also installed a set in my JL about a year and a half ago and those are fine too. No programming required.
I bought the Schrader equivalents on Amazon and they work greatBe very leery of those super cheap eBay sensors listed. There are plenty of Chinese sensors coming over that aren’t tested, Are junk and quite frankly don’t work and don’t last. If you need a quick set to slap in to sell some wheels or trade the car in go for it.
Schader 20398 is the OE sensor that is aftermarket market meaning you can buy them not as a dealer part # and get ripped off. Same sensor that comes in them from factory. They will be about $30-$40 each. Those are the direct fit option.
You can also buy a few varieties of universal sensors either dual band or 433 that will work however the JL protocol is not very stable and the transmitter in the JL is weak hence all the problems getting TPMS to work when lifted, bigger tires etc.
Yes right now they are the best and most stable for the JL. We have got other programmable brands to work but some have reported the JL losing the connection. Schrader 20398 is the only way to go right now. If you want to go cheaper at least get a reliable and actual legit sensor. If you are spending less than $25 a sensor they are 99% fake. there are plenty coming from China right now that look legit but with a careful eye or even breaking them apart as we have, they are not. Don't have the same testing process and are not stamped with the right markings.I bought the Schrader equivalents on Amazon and they work great
Well, they say Schrader on them, some have Mopar part numbers on them, and they are made in the USA. Granted, they don't come in retail packaging but if you handled them you'd know they are OEM. If you don't think they're legitimate then they're counterfeit, not knockoffs. They are not OEM for $50 for 5.
And most importantly, at least so far, they work perfectly. A friend of mine bought the ones from Quadratec that come mounted and balanced for $40 per sensor, and they cut out constantly.Well, they say Schrader on them, some have Mopar part numbers on them, and they are made in the USA. $50 for 5 is plenty for how much they should cost.
