My jeep, when it gets here, will have the optional steel bumpers. Oh boy! I'll try not to let it go to my head.

Anyhow, I am going to need a winch. But here's the rub.......I don't even know if they make such a thing, but here is what I am wanting:

1) I want the winch to fit inside the bumper. I want it to be where you really can't notice it.

2) I want it to be light. I am worried about the jeep looking like the titanic once the winch is installed.

3) I am not going to have this thing in a mud pit. I'm not going to be pulling other people out of mud pits. I might need it to pull me out of a snow bank or something, so I'm guessing an 8,000 pound winch would be plenty???

4) Cost doesn't matter anymore. No, not because I'm rich. Because once you've spent so much money you just become numb to it. When I down to my last dollar I'm going to celebrate by having steak.

Anyone know which winch would work? (unintended alliteration)

It should be able to handle twice the weight of the jeep.

Any winch will protrude above the top of the OEM bumper. Winches are heavy. Some are more heavy than others, but none are lightweight. However, this won’t make your Jeep nosedive. If you want to have adequate pulling power get a winch rated at least 8000-10000 lbs.

Very few winches are designed to be hidden anymore. They’ve become a status symbol. Something to sit on your Jeep and say “look what I got “.

If auto correct had changed winches to wenches, my post would have a completely different meaning, but would still ring true :like:

Putting on my "dad hat", doesn't sound like you really need a winch in terms of functionality. And pretty much every person I know who has financial troubles, also has the sort of relationship with spending you mentioned. Just wanted to throw that out there.

I bet your Jeep will do fine without the winch and you will save money, carry less weight, and overall not having a winch will be a plus. But if you must have a winch that setup posted by Jimac looks slick.

One issue with the winch hook in that location though, is if you are pushing something with your Jeep, there might be more likelyhood of damage or scratch/denting the vehicle you are pushing. And for some reason I found myself often using my Jeep to push things.

I just saw this if any one is looking for a winch. It might work for someone. Plus, it's $200 off!

That sounds like a great deal.

The spec's look pretty similar to the one that Jimac has, which, by the way, looks great. If the XRC fits as nicely as Jimac's does, I can't see the reason to pay more for the X20 unless there is something there that I'm not seeing. The size differences appear to be pretty close to each other:

X20: 9.4 height
22.3 width
5.4 depth
67 pound weight

XRC: 7.4 inch height
20.8 inch width
6.3 inch depth
78 pound weight

I'm guessing both would hide themselves pretty well in the bumper. It's the weight thing that bothers me. I wonder if that is more to do with it not having the synthetic line.

I’m not exactly sure of the differences, but i thought the xrc has a wired controller and slower line speed. X20 is wireless and faster line speed. You can get the XRC with synthetic, I believe (i think it’s an extra $100). But, that would have the biggest effect on weight.

Hey! that's a good point. I could put the synthetic on it.

From a person that doesn't know much about these winches (me), would the XRC be about as invisible in the factory steel bumper as the X20 is? It's hard for me to pass up on that 299 XRC deal, but I will if most people feel that the X20 is *that* much better.

Whenever I see a winch on a Jeep, it makes the Jeep grill and bumper look like a face with pursed lips with a tongue sticking out.
