Thoughts on using a bottle jack as a primary road side jack for changing a flat. My scissor jack was lent out to someone in a pinch and I won’t be getting it back. Note that I’m not talking about off road recovery. I already have an 8 ton bottle jack that fits in the under floor compartment in the back. I’m considering replacing the scissor jack or adding a bottle jack buddy. For reference my Jeep is a 2018 unlimited sport s with rubicon suspension and 33s.

I love Bottle Jacks. I have 2 in my jeep and i also have two jack stands used in case of slippage. I have a collapsible shovel and a couple blocks of wood. That's what I use for off roading but you never know if you have to change a tire on a soft shoulder in the rain so its good to be prepared. I also have the bottle jack buddy but make sure you order a couple extra plastic collars, they will break.

Yep, bottle jack here too. They are much more user-friendly than a "hi-lift", work better in almost all cases and are much safer for those that aren't experienced with a hi-lift. I would always suggest someone go with a bottle jack.

Hey, if your storing your bottle jack on its side, watch for any leakage and also be familiar with how to trouble shoot loss of hydraulic pressure, don't assume the jack is shot, it may be a simple fix like bleeding the jack.

I kind of like the mechanical bottle jacks - specifically from 3/4 or 1 ton trucks. Usually inexpensively available at a salvage yard in like-new condition.

For me the advantages are no fluid, will work in any position (used mine today upside down with an adapter to break a tire bead), a low retract height and a decent extend height.

A stout cordless drill makes quick work of initial raising and lowering but for heavier lifting I do need to use the crank manually.
