Body mount bolts normal or reverse threaded?

I had the same issue with my sway bar bolts. The only access I had to them was through the head. But I still sprayed the head, and even though there wasn't really a gap there, I tried to spray between the sway bar mounting bracket And where detaches to the frame, and thankfully it actually did the trick. Turns out the penetrating oil does a really good job at penetrating small non-existent spaces!

I ended up stealing your photo from above, you got plenty of places you can spray it, where it will eventually get to the threads. It is penetrating oil after all...

Each space where there is even seemingly a non-existent gap, the penetrating oil will get through. I've circled all of the points where you should be spraying.

You actually have a lot more places to spray yours to get through to the bolt than I did with my sway bar.

Like I said above, what have you got to lose?

If I were you I would go for it, but it's up to you how much time you want to spend cranking these bolts off.

Dumping some on the drivers side this morning, installing the passenger side shortly.

Red Loctite is a thermoset polymer. Without heat to soften the polymer, the bolt is at risk of snapping.

Dumping some on the drivers side this morning, installing the passenger side shortly.

You might get lucky, but if you have just one of those captive nuts break free, you will quickly regret going caveman style with the cheater bar instead of using a small, controllable torch to heat the bolt and soften the loctite. Hell, even cavemen harnessed the use of fire…

Yes I think ignorance and luck helped me. If I have to do anything similar in the future I think I would invest in one of those magnetic inductive heaters

I appreciate everyone’s help to assist removing the bolts. I’m throwing in the towel. I can’t get the passenger side installed and have a feeling that either the sliders or my jeep is defective. I’ve had nothing but problems installing Rusty’s Offroad products.

The holes in the sliders won’t line up so I emailed a local shop before I drop this thing on my head and die.

Im hoping to keep the passenger side body mount bolt off and drive 10 minutes to the local shop this coming week. F- for effort on my part.

I should’ve just bought a Prius.

I know pics and angles can be deceiving but I would wait and ask the manufacturer to remedy it if there is a misalignment. I’m willing to do some minor clearancing, but if it comes down to paying someone, I want to know what the manufacturer has to say first. Especially a company with a good reputation.

Good ask. I bought these from a forum member from Grand Junction, don’t think he’s active here anymore and the manufacturer only warranties original owner, at least that’s the policy. I’ll email and ask them tomorrow but I’m not expecting anything. Fingers crossed.

Why not clean up the bolt to remove any remnants of the Loctite and snug it with one or two Ugga Duggas to keep anything from shifting on the ride to the shop?

I cleaned them up and I might do that. The retaining clips are all messed up and so I gave up. We’ll see about tomorrow. Still frustrated the thing doesn’t line up.

Sometimes it’s better for me to take a break and ponder things before I start throwing tools or breaking stuff because of my impatience.

It keeps getting better… why the hell is is to difficult to install rock sliders?!? Reminds me of an IT security term, security through obscurity. Please make things simple.

I think I’m really screwed now. I was able to get the front bolt back in. The two rear seem like there’s a welded nut on the inside that the bolt threads into and that nut became unwelded. I can thread the stupid bolt through the retaining clip but after that the bolt just seems to hit the nut and then spin, it won’t start threading and it sounds like that nut is spinning.

Do I have to rip out the seats and carpet to get at the top of the body to see what the heck is going on? I saw someone had to cut a hole for access to the front one, luckily that one is okay.

Here I thought removing the bolts would be the most difficult thing. Junk.
