Looking to get some mods ordered for my new 23 Willys XR coming soon. I want to install a tailgate table in this JL, but I’ve never had one before. What are some tables you guys recommend and why?

I grabbed the GooseGear table. Maybe a bit more money than other tables, but I am completely happy with it.

Easy install. Very high quality. Silent when driving, for the most part. Rumble strips will get a slight vibration out of it, but that's it.

I put the Outback Adventures Trailgater on my JLUR. Installed for two years now with tons of use and zero rattles. It was expensive but it was worth it.

I now have owned three different tables.

Springtail: absolutely silent once installed, easy to adjust to make sure it stays silent and doesn’t rattle. However I didn‘t like the paracord supports.

American Adventure Labs: one button operation, extremely sturdy mounting, integrated light, endless choice of colors, no support lines, beautiful wood. But I couldn’t silence the rattles and it drove me nuts. Also installing that latch-button is a pain in the ass. Having done it four times trying to get rid of the rattle I swore I’d never do it again.

Outback Adventure (currently installed): easy install, beautiful wood, expands by sliding out the cutting board, steel cable supports, rattles in only very rare conditions (acceptable to me). I’m not yet convinced on the strength of the mounting. I also wish it had the cool light from the AAL - maybe I’ll retrofit one.

I also have the Outback Adventure Trailgater table. It fit perfectly, installed in 20 minutes, does not rattle, and is very well made. Not inexpensive, but like a few other high end ones, it's made in America, and I'll pay extra for that.
I decided on this specific one based on how many I see at overlanding shows and the plethora of very experienced overlanders use it and recommend it.

I really like my Springtail. It was easy to install and has been trouble free:

x2 for springtail. I use mine all the time with my family when we are out and about, and also when I'm working on the Jeep or on the trail. It's silent, does not rattle, offers a solid mounting point for Molle Bags with small stuff in them (as well as my 4 way lug wrench), and a good place for stickers. You could replace the paracord with Steel cables if you wanted. I have pics and a small write up in my build thread.

The search feature is your friend and should bring up multiple threads like this one. ;)

I've had the springtail table for almost 4 years. It has served its purpose and I like it generally, but I'm about to replace it because it has developed a rattle and I've found that the table itself bends too easily for my liking.

YMMV ?

I think there are better options available today. My wife's Jeep has the Trailgater, and it is very nice.

I have the FrontRunner tailgate table and it’s awesome. I think it’s comparable to the GooseGear one and less expensive. My top priority was a table that did not rattle (none so far in the past 6 months). I wanted one that had a solid tabletop instead of one that had slits cutout because the MOLLE feature (in the closed position) didn’t appeal to me and I wanted to make sure nothing fell through (screws, etc) and nothing dripped down. The FrontRunner also has the wooden pull out cutting table/tabletop extender.

One that I've got my eye on is this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08L4GC8C...olid=1RL9R70QXX9XG&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

Yes, it's a no-name Amazon find, but it has great reviews and I really like the 2nd shelf option.

HOWEVER

What I'm waiting for is one that lifts UP instead of dropping down. I'm 6'1" and I'm happy with my JL's height where it is (40" at the fender lips), so a table that drops down will be pretty low. There was a SmittyBilt one that lifted up, but it was for the JK - I don't think they've made one for JL yet.

I bought my bumper off a guy who had fabricated his own using this as a guide (https://offroadpassport.com/forums/...Lcicx7f1MI9KBBicu2oxBWclm3yz60yucib1L96XaCtAc) - he basically just flipped this upside down. It was pretty slick and the materials weren't bad, I've just had other priorities.

I too have the Front Runner. It is very sturdy and I'm not sure how a table such as this could be made stronger. It probably mounts the same as all other tables, I don't know, but it's very strong.

Mine rattled but I was able to bend the latching mechanism slightly so it became tight, and no more rattle.

The key to mounting it was not to tighten anything until all the bolts were started, then it was easy. That being said, there was one hole that wasn't perfect and I had to take a drill and wallow it out slightly so there was a fraction of an inch more wiggle room. That was ok, but slightly frustrating that it was perfect. It was a minor annoyance, but since the table has been installed, it's worked great, and I can't say enough, it's sturdy, solid.

Are the JK and JL mounting points the same, i.e. tables interchangeable?

I have the Frontrunner. It's very sturdy and stable, I don't recall ever hearing noise from it. I do think it could have better wood (I stained and treated mine). I think the table could slide out a lot easier but I don't wind up using it anywhere near as much as I expected because it barely fits my campchef propane oven with the hood open.
