I just installed the 813 Fabrication dead pedal and couldn’t be happier with the quality, adjustability, ease of install, and how well it was packaged for shipping (pic below). I can’t wait to see what else 813 releases for the JL. @813 Fabrication & Design

Take a look at the Dead Pedal I designed. Made from 1/8" aluminum, so it is beefy! Simple install, all you need to do is remove the firewall bolt, put the pedal in place and replace the bolt. The pedal lifts out of the way for floor mat removal. The best feature of the pedal... I have two optional switches that mount in the pedal. The "Old School" floor dimmer switch or a momentary switch. I use the floor dimmer switch in my JL and JT and have it controlling a set of off-road lights. It makes the ultimate backroad high beam switch. No more fumbling trying to find a button to push while driving, just click the switch with your foot. The momentary switch was an option I added for customers looking for a way to control items such as a train horn.

POSTMORTUM: After way too much research, I went with the DV8.

My want list:
  • Easy to install
  • Solid as a rock
  • Not resting on floor mat
  • returnable
The DV8 checks all of the boxes - plus it wasn't on backorder. I always try to buy on Amazon for no-questions-asked returns. The M.O.R.E. was a close call except for three things: 1) It's not available on Amazon. 2) the install was a little daunting (but I was game). 3) M.O.R.E. has a restocking fee and this is their return policy No merchandise will be issued credit or refund if it has been installed, modified, used in any way or is in unsalable condition. That means, I buy it, I own it. I guess that I could have eyeballed it without a test fit, but I'd still be on the hook for 20% restocking plus return shipping. In the end, the return policy killed the deal for me.

Doesn't the clutch get in the way of the dead pedal?

Let us know how you like it. I've been bouncing between the M.O.R.E. and DV8 myself for those same reasons, plus the fact that it's impossible for either to rotate in position once installed.

That looks really nicely made, thanks for posting! Really like the height and depth adjust-ability and the rubber grommets for traction, but yeah, think it would look much cleaner/nicer with a black powder-coat.

Looks like it's using the same bent inward catch as the Quadratech design. Not 100% sure, but I'm assuming this should work to safely stop the unit from accidentally rotating behind the brake pedal if the firewall bolt would happen to loosen. Seems like it would catch on the bottom of the plastic firewall cover. Still think the 2-bolt mounting plate design of the DV8 would be safer, but I guess this would probably work in such a scenario.

This is exactly what I meant by "solid as a rock". As I learned more, I steered away from the dead pedals that mount via only one of the fire wall bolts. I plan to slightly adjust the angle this morning because it's a breeze to do so. That is a major strike against the M.O.R.E. - once it's installed, you will do virtually anything to avoid messing with it again.

When the DV8 package arrived, and I hefted the box, I thought they may have packed a cinder block in the package by mistake. It's that heavy-duty.

Installed the Quadratec dead pedal just now and it is two really well formed pieces of thick well-finished stainless steel. The laser cut Quadratec logo is only on the less visible back plate and was easy to cover with a strip of aluminum tape. (Wouldn't have got this if the logo had been on the pedal itself.) Mine took just under 4 weeks to ship, and that would have been annoying if I had not read here about their chronic out-of-stock situation.

This thread was also helpful to me in identifying what I wanted in a dead pedal: 1) easy install, 2) good looking, 3) some adjustability for distance and angle, 4) no logos visible, and 5) it needs to be out of the way (or pivot out of the way) when I want to remove and clean the slush/mud mat. Or to let my leg stretch out on a long trip--I've had a dead pedal in a different vehicle that prevented stretch.

This thread was NOT helpful to me in that before reading it I did not know I wanted a dead pedal. Even on long drives I tended to ignore my left leg falling asleep and ceaselessly looking for a comfortable rest spot. After reading this thread a month ago, I've been missing the dead pedal on every drive.

I would have ordered the Metalcloak instead of waiting, but I think it only came out three weeks ago? The Metalcloak is a bit more adjustable which is a good design. The simple M logo on the front is less objectionable, but I would probably still would have gone with a no logo option.

My easy-install requirement is mostly a comment on what I've read here about the difficult M.O.R.E. dead pedal install. I like M.O.R.E. stuff and their retractable side steps are one of my favorite little mods with none of the drawbacks of other side-steps. I can see what they were going for with their dead pedal mount, but the difficulties described by those who installed the M.O.R.E. dead pedal didn't sound like it was only a problem for people without mechanical skills. It sounded like even capable installers were pretty annoyed. Plus, working in the cramped footwell is maddening anyway, and I had enough of that getting the Jscan and Taser bits installed.

The Quadratec arrived today and was a quick install: remove the 13mm nut on the firewall, put the spacer washers on the bolt, hang the mounting plate on that bolt and screw the 13mm nut back on. (Mount the footplate to the backing plate first.)

Does this work on the 2024 Willys (JL)? Thanks!

Yeah, so I tried to order it but your PayPal is not setup to ship to Canada. As per your web site, I'll shoot you an email.

Thanks!
Thanks! I do all International orders as custom orders so that I can keep shipping costs as low as possible for customers.

Ordered this with the momentary switch. Arrived today. Solid pedal. Installed it tonight. Quick install. The wiring of the switch to my electronic air horn took the longest. Makes using the air horn so much easier. This was the perfect answer to my need.
Thanks for the update. Going to order this one myself. Which length did you decide to go with? Closest to the driver or furthest away?

Not sure I understand your question. Are you asking about which holes in the bracket I used?
