Probably the biggest concern I have is the added weight out on a long moment arm combined with the engine vibration which causes high G accelerations. In other words: a lot more weight sticking out a lot further. You're replacing the plastic cap with a chunk of aluminum that is north of a pound, then adding a steel can filter full of oil, weighing another pound or so, out another few inches, then you vibrate it with the engine pulses. When you look at how narrow the oil filter housing is, the few small bolts torqued to like 106 lbs/in or 9 lbs/ft, it gets looking pretty sketchy. If the plastic housings were warping and cracking before, my concern is how well they hold up to this significant added load.

100% agree... It is taking a already weak cooler housing, and possible sending it into destruct mode.. :headbang:

The original plastic oil filter housing at some point is going to leak and should be replaced with an aluminum one.

Another worthless “improvement” that’s a “cash extractor” in search of a PT Barnum subject. The canister oil filter design is becoming standard across multiple brands. Works just fine. The plastic oil filter/cooler housing is the questionable item IMHO, but I’m yet to be convinced Dorman’s quality would be sufficient to exceed OEM.

I'm onboard with an aluminum OFH, if, and only if it incorporates the latest oil cooler seal configuration that eliminates the "figure 8" seals.

I would want to see the seal design between the cooler and the housing.

If it's this, don't waste your money:

FCA did improve the plastic model to this and Mishimoto did too, then it's a winner.

One of the members here or the other forum inquired with Dorman about the seal configuration and they were aware of it as a few others had also inquired. The response was indicative that they wound investigate the possibility of incorporating this seal configuration.

Might be worth a few more of us contacting Dorman as well.

The Mishimoto has the same part number as the Dorman.
