The base model is an incredible deal. However, in no time has Jeep offered such a diverse array of options. In the 70-90s, for example, the concept of the Rubicon didn't exist until the end, meaning that you couldn't get a Wranger with locking differentials, substantially beefed up axles, 4:1 gearing in the transfer case, etc. The introduction of the Rubicon, Mojave, and 392 has made the base model much less attractive and therefore people set their eyes on a $30-60k upgrade over the base model. I believe this is the reason that there are so many people who fail to see the truth.

More over, while this doesn't specifically address your post, I find it insane that aftermarket accessories have gotten substantially more expensive since COVID. I'm not sure if the world is truly still experiencing supply and material shortages, or if the price hikes are just staying inflated for profitability, but in 2019 complete long arm lift kits were $3500 (coils, steering, shocks, arms, brackets, etc) and now they're $7000. 40" Nittos were selling for $440 each in 2019 (I have the receipts) and now 40" tires are $600. I bought UD60s for $11,500 a PAIR in 2019, and now you can't find them under $17,000. Same with literally everything else. We're seeing a 30%-200% price hike on everything which is making it insanely difficult to build another Jeep in the current economy.

As far as I can tell, D44 Rubi axles used to cost roughly $2,500 now they are $5,000 or $10,000 for a set which is absurd.

I've lived through several periods of "runaway" inflation. While most of the price increases are legitimate, some vendors use inflation as air cover to gouge. They tend to be easy to spot.

Interesting read.

Excerpt:
Take, for example, the Jeep Wrangler. Accounting for inflation, the Base model 2 door at 31,895 has SO MUCH more standard than you could ever get on a JK, TJ, YJ, etc. Adjusted for inflation, it’s no more expensive than a Jeep has ever been.

The problem is, the "SO MUCH more standard" was never really wanted by many, so they're still making us pay for stuff we don't want and don't need making the CJ/YJ/TJ much better values that hold their value much better...at least in my opinion.

Twas ever thus... if you're on a budget you can get in on the ground floor with a basic Sport or Sport S for a reasonable amount of money and upgrade bits over time. You may pay more in the end, but you can spread the cost out. Otherwise, you pay more up front for a Rubicon or an X package...

None. Stellantis doesn't sell "stripper" or "base" Jeeps. They sell the Sport, etc.
Dang. I was hoping they might come with tassles or bedazzling or something, you know?

Love the sport it was my wife's first jeep. Unfortunately now they have a great lease incentive on 2 for and none in so cal under $35000. Will keep looking and if no luck then opt for the 4 door unlimited. This month the lease for sports is best it has been for quite awhile.

Ordering isn't an option? That's how you get the best prices.

TY. I am interested in the lease and it would be quite uncertain to order one & have it arrive at dealers within the short time lease deadlines which normally are one month time or even less.

Yeah, it'd definitely take more than a month. The savings, however, can be significant. See the spreadsheet in my sig for details.

TY. If you mean savings on buying vs leasing. I would have to finance anyway and not enough monies to finance right now so leasing with intent to buy in when it ends. Am also looking into leasing a 2023 loaner sport unlimited with ab out 6k miles on it. I need to see if I get full 3 year lease and how much % they are willing to take off the MSRP. Right now it is only 15% and I feel since that is norm dealers are taking off 2023 NEW Gladiators that it is not enough since this has been driven for one year at least as a loaner. Unless anyone in here feels since it is a Jeep that 15% is a good deal? Appreciate any and all feedback.

No, not buying versus leasing. It's about getting a price that's significantly below invoice. See the spreadsheet in my sig.
