I see you are a mountain biker (from the rockshox sticker). Do you use a spare tire bike rack? Does the handle bar hit the rear window?
Yes MTB for sure (Surly and Salsa rule!) but I have 1UP hitch mount...nothing on the tire.

I went out to look at my rear glass hatch. Surprisingly, the glass looks very rigidly mounted. I would have expected to see some rubber sandwiched in the glass mount side.

Heres some pix of the hinges. When everything is hard mounted, the axis alignment of the two hinges becomes more critical.

Thanks for the pics Roanie. Only an engineer would spot horizontal axis...hehe!

Bolts through glass.... Overtightened, Undertightened, Threads contacting inside hole, are all common causes.
Uncommon causes are overzealous birds with poor eyesight, snowballs made with more ice than snow, frozen excrement from overhead airliners...

LOL I recall many years ago getting a report that one of our planes had dropped a large piece of "blue ice" an it fell thru the roof of a forestry service residence and the ranger had "preserved the evidence" in the freezer. ROTFALMAO. We should have advised them to dispose of the freezer.

Jim, is it possible you are slamming the tail gate hard when you close it and maybe this caused an initial crack? I see when I close mine it compresses the seal for the back window but I never slam it.
I complain about my wife always slamming the cabinets closed or if she even shuts the faucet I can hear it downstairs in the boiler room because the pipes clank. I'm always telling her "do you need to slam the doors or faucet shut?" She looks at me like i"m crazy and says "I didn't slam it"
I give up!

Ok...after careful review in the driveway, I had to race back to Safelite before they closed. Keep in mind they have done the install each time (all three).

As soon as I got home I could see it. I don't know why I couldn't see it before. 1/2 gap on driver side, ZERO gap, (resting against frame) on passenger side. They installed the glass each time with out centering it in the frame. Hinges look like a slight 20 degrees to the right. Took it back and they adjusted hinges and center glass in frame....f@ck me. I really hope that was it? Thanks to all who offered advice, both silly and serious. You guys are the best!

Duly noted. If mine ever needs replacing...

Surely that was your issue. Glad you got it fixed!

Hopefully, your problem is solved. One test I would think might tell you if the hinge axis are misaligned is to disconnect the gas struts and move the window thru it's arc by hand. .
