So as I recently learned there is no block heater I learned even more recently its about to get really cold... around -27F (-33C) and not enough time to get one installed.

Should I be worried about extra wear on a cold start? If so, can I just use one of those magnet oil pan heaters? Should I use something else? is the oil pan even metal or is it some crazy plastic material?
Magnetic oil pan heaters, and heated dipsticks, were recurringly recommended in the other threads that you started or participated in. You still haven't bought one? ;) You would've had plenty of time to install the block heater kit that wasn't purchased.

I remember one winter when it it hit -39C(-38F) overnight and I had to work in the AM. I didn't have a block heater....but mt dad suggested putting a 175W incandescent bulb in a shitty old table lamp and putting that under the oil pan before bed. Worked mint. The starter motor almost packed it in....but the 4.2 turned over. Once running, I turned on the headlights and both lows blew. Drove to work with one high and the the other unplugged.

I still haven't bought one because I don't know how and don't want to do anything to ruin my warranty. was going to get the dealership to do it in the next oil change but given the sudden downturn in weather I figured I cant put this off any longer and need a solution that I can implement myself.

people new to jeeps shouldnt be using this forum.

While on the subject of super cold start any of you tested the crank no start method ( hold break and gas when pushing start ) to get some oil flowing before attempting to start the jeep in that cold of a weather?
@roaniecowpony I'm serious about that one.

I'm not really seeing anything in the next 7 days that cold in Alberta. If these temps below are accurate don't sweat it Alberta Canada weather But absolutely do find the time for adding some form of pre warmer.

Respectfully, I think people "not new" to Jeeps on here are bewildered why, after you've been given excellent suggestions in response to previous threads you created on the topic, you start new threads to ask the same question. I think it might make people who took the time to respond and give you good information feel like their efforts were ignored and/or didn't matter.

Fascinating thread. I've never had to deal with such cold temps on a personal vehicle. Did have one experience when my H-60 pilot forced some frozen throttle cables and stripped the ends off. Had two days of great skiing while awaiting on parts! Even flying H-3's out of Nunavut we used jet heaters before we even considered moving any mechanical components.

I found the neighborhood stray cats helped keep the engine bay warm when really cold but clean up was....well a mess to say the least..true story neighbor's cat lost an eye, part of a tail and a paw...crawling under car hoods...ya would have thought it would have learned after the first time. That ended up being an expensive cat.

I used to put the t-case in neutral and the transmission in gear while letting the engine warm up, gets all the fluid nice and warm before the vehicle moves.
Just be aware if you have an auto tranny you’ll have to shift the tranny to neutral and shut off the engine before putting the transfer-case back in gear.

My last thread about it never asked the question. it just pointed out that the heater isnt there and im annoyed by that. Someone suggested (again - I did not ask) that I install something that I have no idea how to install.

Now im asking the question people are lambasting me for asking. This is why this forum is not friendly to people who are new to jeeps.

I read through the 3 pages of this thread and I believe the responses have been mostly if not entirely positive. Keep in mind not everything comes across exactly as intended in these public forums. As a reader, you should not read too much into people's side comments.
