So as I recently learned there is no block heater I learned even more recently its about to get really cold... around -27F (-33C) and not enough time to get one installed.

Should I be worried about extra wear on a cold start? If so, can I just use one of those magnet oil pan heaters? Should I use something else? is the oil pan even metal or is it some crazy plastic material?

The 3.6 has a steel oil pan. If I lived up there, I'd install heat pads on the engine, trans, and TXcase.

If you can not use it during that time it would be best.
If you need it, let it warm up good before leaving, also take it easy as the drive line does not heat up at idle. The oil pan heater is a good idea alternatively if you have a wood stove it woul be to use the firebrand in a bucket that you slip under the jeep.
Also be ready to be scare as a -33c jl startup will do a lot of weird and scary sound.

As I suggested earlier a pad heater takes minutes to install. Not magnetic but permanently glued on. I installed one on a 12L diesel (500 watt) and it did the trick.

It’s +50F here this morning. Brr.

At those temps your washer fluid might freeze. Hopefully your antifreeze isn’t light on concentration…

I used to use these on my oil pan and tranny pan on my Ford F250. My buddy worked on the slope and he said they would build tents around vehicles and use propane heaters to thaw vehicles out.

Assuming that you're running a 100% synthetic 0w-20, -33C shouldn't be of much concern.
Or 0w30 or 0w40. Still, if I lived where it got that cold regularly, I'd have heaters on stuff.

Agree with you. They know exactly where the vesicle is being delivered and already price it differently (even MSRP) despite being the exact same vehicle sold in one state vs another.

On the other hand, the high is 85F today here in the great state of Texas.

While on the subject of super cold start any of you tested the crank no start method ( hold break and gas when pushing start ) to get some oil flowing before attempting to start the jeep in that cold of a weather?
