Keep in mind that if you alter the tires & suspension that could change things.

The more capable you make your JL for off-road use, the worse you make it for on-road use. It's always a compromise to some degree so make sure you limit it to a degree you can live with. You'll especially notice it at highway speed.

Hi folks! Potential 2-door owner here. Just curious what your average high speeds are or at what point does the rig started getting a little sketchy for daily freeway driving. I currently drive an Outback wilderness and I tend to drive it at around 70mph.
I’ve never driven a wrangler and I’m expecting it to be whole different beast.
Been driving my 2dr 80th Edition for two and a half years now. It rides and handles well at highway speeds with no issues.

BUT...

I've found that gas mileage drops off sharply at speeds over 65, so that where I set the cruise control.

65-75 in my 2 door occasionally 80-90 depending on my mood and how late I am. But typically spend the bulk my time on streets since most times it's just about the same amount of time. I will say above 75 it feels like I'm like floating on air or some weird shit

Assuming no issues with road conditions you should be good cruising 70-75. One thing different that you have to pay attention to is cross winds. Maybe slow it down a bit if it is particulary windy.

Got my 2021 Sport S Freedom edition over two years ago. Steering/handling was “meh” for a two door, but I expected that. Around 4000 miles, installed a rubi takeoff suspension, 17x9 wheels with 285 70 17 takeoff Falken Wildpeak at3w’s, and set castor to ~6.5 with adjustable LCAs. Jeep now tracks dead straight and stable at 75 down the freeway easy peasy. Gained about two inches of lift and loving it! ? Get the castor angle up a little and it’ll help noticeably straighten things out.

I am continually surprised at how well-engineered my '22 Rubicon 3.6l manual is. It handily tackles all the Colorado trails that my jeep club full of built YJs and TJs can do, but heading home after the trail they are gasping to reach 60mph, I can fly down the highway close to 90mph before I realize it and have to slow down. Even running a 2" lift on the factory 33s it is smooth and strong as most cars, with noticeable throttle response even in 6th gear. Purists may scoff at a jeep with heated seats and an Alpine stereo, but I say they are just jealous. I love my JLR!

Our JLU is fine at 70-75 mph. Have seen 90+ a few times and it was stable

35 inch Nitto muds, no problem at 75-80. That said, any sudden steering input at those speeds can lead to a deadly roll. Cross winds are of little issue as my usual setup is is a bikini top, windows down.

I try to keep it under 75 if only for the fuel economy. Just remember its a Wrangler they were never intended to go fast

I have a '22 Willys 2 door with 2.0l and swapped to the Rubicon Wheels/Tires. That made for a big difference in tire noise at highway speeds plus installing the Mopar LCA helped drivability. The crosswinds can be a problem because of body shape. I've taken it up the the 96 mph cutoff and it's not squirrely. I used to have a '08 reg cab short bed Ram with leaf springs on the rear and it could be dicey at highway speeds. Bottom line is that at 70 mph on the highway the Willys drives fine.

97 mph in my EcoDiesel daily, on the highways, zero issues in a straight line, and I haven't run front sway bar links for the last year, again, zero issues.

Only real downside is my average 23 mpg instead of 28 with my EcoDiesel. ?‍♂

I'll agree with what others have said. I have 4 years and 31K miles of driving my soft-top 2.0T 2-door, including a few weekend getaway trips with my family up to Rhode Island and Massachusetts. I've done a few 11-12 hour days behind the wheel too; 3 hour drive out to PA, bounce around on the trails for 5-6 hours, then drive 3 hours home. It's great fun, and the 2.0T got over 20mpg.

I drove it stock for a year and it was fine. Not really confidence-inspiring over 65-70 mph on a windy day, but not scary either. Then we added in the Rubicon springs/shocks/tires and it felt better, even though there was slightly less caster. The BFGs are way better than the stock Bridgestone A/Ts that came on my Jeep. Last year we added in the Mopar longer lower front control arms and gained back some caster. Now it's really great IMO. Heavy crosswinds will still push you around, but it's very solid up to 75+ now, and it tracks straight with one hand on the wheel if it's not a very windy day. I honestly don't drive much faster than that because you still need to leave room to stop or deal with distracted drivers.

Stock for stock, the longer-wheelbase JLU is slightly better over bumps and straight highway cruising, but the 2-door is perfectly fine for what it is.

JLUR-XR with the 3.6L. I like to hover between 65-75mph. Any faster and mpgs drop off fast, and jeep feels like its pushing a lot of air. Would imagine that the diesel and v8 jeeps probably don't struggle with umph at the higher speeds.

Over short spurts, have seen +85mph and handling/stability seem fine.

2doors will likely be a bit more unstable due to the shorter wheel base, but at stock i'd imagine it feels the same.

Suspension changes, steering, oversize tiers, wheel spacing will all affect behavior and will be unique to those mods.

I drive 65 to 70 mainly for two reasons, 1st the Jeep Wrangler is not built to go fast, go fast in a sports car, I generally drive at or below speed limit in my Jeep, 2nd below 70 and more like 65 gets way better gas mileage. I've had it above 90 and did not notice any adverse handling issues.

The handling is never an issue for me, I'm super impressed how the JLUR handles being that it's a massive box sitting up so high.
