Thanks for that. This is what they were told when the dealer opened the star case and the air leak test failed for the D clutch. mine is a 2019, so I'm glad they were able to get it done.

Well add me to this list... been doing this for 1yr and now it's to the point where I need to take it in. Super hard clunk into R every cold shift and a hanging 3/4 shift. Weird thing is that a manual 3/4 shift is a little rough, but when in auto, it tries to shift several times until it slams in. Then it's usually good for the rest of the day or if it's parked for a few hours, then rinse/repeat.

2023 JLUR 3.6L 59K miles- I have the same issue. Started around 25k miles. It now has become much worse in the cold and does it several time through out the day. This is very similar to issues I had with my Silverado which is now a classaction lawsuit against GM. Jeep goes in tomorrow. Sounds like all they are doing is reprogramming. Silverado all over again....... Jeep has been great up until now.

Hi everyone, another person chiming in with the exact same issue as everyone else. 2020 JLU 56k miles.
I dropped it off now at a local shop for a diagnostic and gave a call to a dealer to ask about warranty. I have a lift and other after market stuff that should not have affected transmission.

A few questions if anyone knows the answer:
1) Does this absolutely have to be replaced? I’ve seen some people say it’s just an electrical issue.
2) Tips on navigating transmission warranty with aftermarket mods? I would hate for them to say it’s contributing when we all know it’s not.

Recently purchased a 24 JLUR with 3.6 engine and 8 speed automatic transmission in January 2024. The Jeep has about 400 miles on it now. I’ve noticed a rough change of gears between 3rd and 4th gear at slow speeds. It has become more noticeable the more miles I’ve have driven. It almost seems that it hangs in 3rd gear too long which causes the rough shift into 4th gear. I have an appointment March 1st, to get it looked at, but was curious if anyone else has experienced the same issue and if so, what if anything has fixed it. It has no issues if I am changing gears when accelerating at faster speeds, usually happens under 30mph. Appreciate any input.
My 21 Wrangler was having the exact same issue. I had been reporting a forward jerking motion at 35k mi when taking off from a dead stop and at 3rd gear. Took it to the dealer numerous times and they couldn't replicate the issue. Eventually, they identified the motion but (took several visits to dealer), said the forward jerk was normal. After more than a year of going thru this problem, it got progressively worse to the point the Jeep was stuck in 3rd and wouldn't go into reverse.

Left the car at the dealer and they said the clutch plate was bad. Mind you, i have an automatic but took them at their word. They repaired the issue and fortunately it was covered under warranty. I signed the warranty document and the cost of the repair was $2k and i'm glad it didn't come out of my pocket! I've had numerous issues with my 2 Jeeps. Love them, but quality is suspect to say the least.

Automatic transmissions are filled with various clutches.

WOW...I thought that the 8 speed, was bullet proof, like the 5 speeds. Our JLR, 8 speed with the 4.10 Ratio, shifts and performs just great. Very smooth. But we don't have these severe cold temperatures, that most of you are experiencing. Does this play a part in it, not sure.

Mines always done that. It’s almost always in the morning leaving my neighborhood and some times randomly. Sometimes it’s way harder than others. I have reason to believe that it’s temperature related but, can’t prove that.
I think you might be right. My 2021 4 Door JLUR Gecko has always done it also but very randomly as well

And today I finally got a check engine light and could not shift into reverse. The 3/4 shift is also really bad still. 29K miles and 3mo left on my drivetrain warranty! Going to dealership ASAP!

I had the reverse clunk and hard upshift from 3rd to 4th gear, then reverse wouldn't engage with message "shift to park then desired gear" on dash. Took '21 jlur with 23,000 miles to dealer and they got a code 1DA8-00 they inspected fluid for metal, none found. Then a TSB 21-009-25 Rev A, D clutch repair. They removed transmission, disassembled and replaced D clutch assembly, then a quick learn and adaptation. What a huge difference in transmission operation, just like new now... hope new parts have been improved to not fail again.

I'm having the same issue. 21 JLU with 80k miles. Began having this issue intermittently - mostly the "Shift to P then Desired Gear" issue when attempting to shift into reverse. Now it's happening nearly every time I drive it.

Was the above repair covered under warranty? If yes, is that because your vehicle is still under the powertrain warranty, or because there's a TSB for this issue?

5 year powertrain warranty and only 23,000 miles. Call your nearest dealer to verify if you’re covered.

The "shift to park then desired gear" message might be when my over 4 year old main battery was going bad, battery read 11.4v before replacing it. Check your electrical system first... battery should read 12.5v or higher when. Don't know if the message was because of battery, transmission issue or both.
