wether you replace the auxiliary or bypass the auto stop/start, do it quick. Once the aux dies it will drain your main and leave you stranded.

Dont be mad at stellantis for this blame the govt regulations that stellantis has to follow
There is / was no government regulation that specified that it was required.

but ya run the bypass
Yes, blame Jeep/Stellantis, and don't forget the engineers who made ESS "better" by adding a two battery 12v system. @Ratbert has it right, common misunderstanding. Here's the government regulation. § 86.1869-12 (b) (4) (iii), titled "Engine Idle Start Stop" which provides optional federal credit regarding emission requirements.

So, dumping the aux battery for electrical start reliability is a fine thing to do. The planet might suffer a little however. Every Jeep owner gets to decide.

So they get credits for having start stop, but not required to have it.

I disconnected the start/stop switch under the hood and run 32psi in my tires instead of the 36psi Jeep requires. I have 2 warning lights that I simply ignore. I would rather enjoy a softer ride and reliable engine power for off roading
(nothing worse than having your engine shut off when your negotiating a tricky obstacle) or bouncing down the road with squirrely steering at higher tire pressure. Remember, if your tires start at 36psi, they will get to 40+ psi when on the highway.

There are an untold number of reasons for the ASS fault light to be on. Is the engine light on as well? Traction Control fault? Hood Switch broken? Scroll to the ESS page and see what it says. IF nothing helpful, pull DTC's.

Maybe so but the general requirement for a more efficient car means that jeep had to make stupid decisions like the ESS in order to be compliant.

other stupid decisions include:

- aluminium doors
- aux battery system
- use of plastic where there should be metal
- the hybrid variant

im sure theres more but im not a mechanic. The hybrid variant im sure will get tomatoes thrown at me but i know someone who bought one who never bothers to even use the battery because she says its a pain in the ass and too weak. anyone who buys a jeep to save the environment doesnt understand that they bought a vehicle designed to wander into the forest and crush squirrels :)

I assume by "optional federal credit" you mean jeep gets money for doing it?
