I have about 3k miles on my new JL 4-door Rubicon....3" lift, 35" tires. According to the semi-useless Owner's Manual, there is a second 12v battery behind and below the 12v battery in the engine compartment. The second battery starts/restarts the engine and is charged by "vehicle deceleration." That would seem to be a trivial benefit given the weight and complexity of the system (...there are 3 separate coolant reservoirs in the engine compartment). Where I live, north of Phoenix, it doesn't even work for the half of the year the a/c compressor is running in the heat. It's easy enough to temporarily turn off via the button on the dashboard or permanently disable with a programmer. In which case, I am driving around with a heavy motor generator and second battery for no benefit whatsoever. If I leave it turned on it will eventually require replacement of two expensive parts due to the constant restarting of the engine.

Is there any eventual benefit from using or disabling stop/start?

There are a gazillion threads on ESS. Three new ones last week alone.

Feel free to peruse and comment.

It is not for the consumers benefit.

I imagine the batteries will go bad regardless.

For the love of god please stop this subject. Every single new vehicle has this feature. Get. Used. To. It. I’m shocked so many people are so pissed off by this. No offense to the to the OP but this has been beaten to death. Like others have said, just search the forum for this. This subject has to end. Please.

The etorque is better. Unfortunately my wife's 21 GC L still has the older ess.

I have the 2.0T, etorque, live in a rural area, so never use it. Easy to train yourself to turn it OFF at every ignition cycle, as your finger moves from push start, and heads to the Shifter, move to the ESS button, stab, continue on.
Pay yourself $1 every time you do this ; by the time you reach the cost of a gimmick to do this, you should be trained. Now use the $ to buy Bling for the Jeep.
