lol, I didn't say blow through, but honestly do you come to a solid absolutely no movement stop every single stop sign?
Well, that's really not the point, is it? Why should I be so concerned over some auto engineer's brain fart that I have to change the way I've been driving for the past 35 years? I don't want to think about a system that is supposedly a "benefit." It should be engineered to work seamlessly (read: without it getting my attention) within the generally accepted norms of driving.

For the parking situation, when you pull in to park just pop the seat belt. It won't stop when the seat belt isn't fastened.

I've asked my dealer if they could place a delay in the system. Unfortunately, they said they couldn't. Too bad, if there were a delay, I'd use it more.....so very tired of placing Jeep in park to have it start-stop while I'm shifting into park. Unbuckling the seat belt while coming into park does work, but I'd forget that sometimes. Better just to hit the disable button when I start the jeep and not use it at all. Poor design!

You can be given total control of ESS if you install a SmartStopStart, ESS Disabler. The SSS takes about 10 min to install, easy to do.

Not pricey at all considering what it will do for you over the years you own your JL. With the SSS no more playing games ...like ... press pedal lightly, roll to stop in neutral, press two buttons at start, unfasten seat belt as you go to park, yada, yada..

Also, when you sell your JL, you will be able to sell your SmartStopStart unit here or on Craigslist, etc.. You will get back probably 3/4 of the $ you spent on the SSS. So, with this said, for very few $, you can say bye bye to ESS headaches now.

Has every one of your vehicles driven exactly the same? Each time I've gotten a different vehicle I've had to adjust to the new technology driving it. My Dakota had a cable directly attached to the throttle body, but when I Got my Ram I really had to learn how to use it with a computer controlled throttle. Now go from the Ram to a Jeep and now I've got to learn how to use a manual transfer case and when to use 4Hi and Lo...

TL;DR Every vehicle drives differently, you need to adapt to each one anyway.

This is the ticket, right here. I'm going to install mine today. Jeep should provide this as an option or throw it in free (yeah, right!). As it is, must remember to remove it before having work done on the Jeep, lest the dealer decide it has voided your warranty repair, which I'm sure many would do.

Not a single one of my vehicles before this one has autonomously decided when it should shut off the engine, and restart it, without any input from me.

Good point. For those that like ESS but just find it quirky there are ways to adjust your driving to make it work well. For those that don't like it there are other options.

No sense complaining about it. Life is too short to live with something you hate.

Same for me, however it does look for input from you, as far as how hard you're pressing the brake pedal.

E.S.S is THE BEST...in fact, it is so awesome I like it more than driving topless.
I especially love when I am at a red light for like 1.5 minutes, and my battery is finally charged enough to engage it, and it shuts down as the light turns green...yeah, that's fuckin marvelous.

GOTTA SAVE THAT GAS
ESS, should have never been put in the 3.6, ESS works better in the 2.0 because it runs off of a battery that doesn't need to be charged after every ESS event

So you're telling me that you couldn't just tune the JL to get 2 mpg more instead of adding this ESS nonsense?

The fact that there are 267 ways to disable it, stop it from engaging tells you how great it is.
Put it in neutral, jump out the roof, stick your ass in the air and fart to the east to avoid an ESS event.

I'm just kidding, I disabled mine quite a while ago...I do turn it on once in awhile, to remember how much it sucks.

I do miss saving 1/10th of a mpg while at a red light now though...idk might have to sell it, it drinks too much gasoline without ESS

With the SmartStopStart unit installed, you can use ESS, anytime you want and just as FCA designed.

I myself have never complained about ESS. It does have it's pluses at certain times.

It's to bad that JL owner's have to play games with it constantly so it does not take over so to speak.. does not have YOU, jumping through hoops so to speak.... .. playing games/hoops ...like ... press pedal lightly, roll to stop in neutral, press two buttons at start, unfasten seat belt as you go to park, yada, yada..

Anyway, thanks to technology, (SmartStopStart) you can have ESS benefits but not have to deal with all the games. This for so few $.

My comments were not intended to be critical. I appreciate your post - instead of complaining you provide a practical solution.

I drive a manual so I actually like to control exactly how my Jeep behaves. But I totally understand people that don't like it. And I get that they would like something like SSS from the factory, which of course Jeep can't do because of Cafe. But when you look at all the mods people do to their Jeeps SSS seems like a no-brainer if you don't like ESS.

@ThirtyOne

I took your post the right way... I just used it as a spring board so to speak to talk more about the SmartStopStart unit.

Yes, I chuckle to see guy here on a rant... that they hate ESS and how it ruins their driving experience ...... when for say a lousy $50 (taking into consideration you sell the SSS unit after you sell your JL) you can have total control of ESS, thanks to an easily installed piece of technology... i.e. SmartStopStart.

I'm so pleaseed with my SmartStopStart, I had Steve, at SmartStopStart, send me a dummy SSS, so I can take it to me when I go to Jeep Beach 2019 this week.

EVERYTIME, I hear somebody snibble about ESS, (I'm sure often) I will whip out the dummy SSS unit and show / tell the snibbler about the SSS.

The only reason I am doing this is I think the SmartStopStart is lets say slick as chitt, technology... a terrific adjunct for the JL..... for any vehicle with ESS that needs to be dictated to and not by.

@Rhinebeck01: Curious, do you have both the Smart Stop Start System and the Tazer JL installed?

@Sean L

Yup, sure.......... or could it be that this 70 year old guy just likes to run his mouth about products he has installed and thinks are absolutely terrific.

I have over 4,000 such forum posts. Me ranting about the Taser JL, Bestop Sunrider for hard top JL, Bestop Floor Liners, Gibson Leatherworks holsters, SmartStopStart, Weather Tech Floor Liners, Pedal Commander, Seat Belt Clips, Rigid Lites, Roadmaster Diodes , etc, etc..

:LOL:
